So on Friday evening I was whipping North on 85 towards Cupertino, doing
85 or so (just keeping up with traffic). I got to the DeAnza off ramp,
my exit. Two stinking mini vans got off in front of me, and dropped
from highway speeds to 35 promptly. Well, that's a longish offramp, so
as soon as it opened up to two lanes, I blasted around them. All right!

That was satisfying until I came around the sound wall bend 3 seconds
later at 60 to find...a CHP cruiser. I braked hard but was still fast
enough to trigger him as I went by. I stopped at the top of the ramp
with a sinking feeling as he pulled up behind me. Aww shit!

Just then my light turned green, and a second later a full size van blew
through the intersection, left to right, on the gas. The cruiser
immediately lost all interest in me, pulled around, and went after the
larger target with full lights and siren. All right!

Who says the CHP has no sense of proportion?

I love to see the full disco treatment, especially when it's not for my
    benefit.
    He he he.

    [more snipping]

I got behind a training ride on 85 once. 20 or so of them in a parade, I
fell in behind and followed along. It was like Moses parting the Red Sea.

Do you realize that If that CHP had not been behind you at the
light you might have jumped into the intersection the moment the
light changed and been hit by the van as it ran through the red light?

I'm glad someone's paying attention to the red light runners. The
local cops are few and far between, it seems.

  9. I think he owes us all a public apology, punctuated by seppuku. Just
    to show his sincerity.
