    Brill bike, but I'm biased.
This one if you wan't something very different from a GSX R1000. Power
delivery and balance are very different than the R1, Blade and GSXR. Not
much fun though if you're doing commuting. OTOH, my Gixer Thou is a
    pretty good all rounder.

You won't believe the enjoyment that moment of intentional
    misunderstanding gave me. Silly really.
How do people survive in the provinces, without the essentials of modern
    life?

I dunno what the story is sales-wise on the big Zed. The magazines
love it, and often use phrases that suggest it has sold well. TOG was
always sceptical, tho. I wonder what sales it has really made, and
how they compare with the rest of the market. I certainly haven't
seen that many on the road.

    TOG?

Why was it no good for commuting then ? :)
I like it too I still can't help myself absolutely caning it *all* the
    time :)

Picking up this conversation I have to admit I like the sound of the new
750, if there was one thing I'd change on my bike it would be the brakes
[1]. The new one they look to have addressed the brakes. I have to admit
that come Feb I may be looking at a new one myself !!

[1] The best part of £500 on them and they are still a bit scary!

    It's a struggle, you know. I don't know how I put up with it.[1]

[1] On the plus side, not watching Palace games is proving to be a
    bonus this season.

not at all. But unless I do get paid a bonus, I'll be having to sell
the 'blade and probably be "proper bike-less" for a while.
sure, I'd like a *go* on one, I just don't think I'd want to own one.
they do. It's just the 'blade is the first race-rep fully-faired bike
    I've owned, and I'm sort of after a return to 1/2 or 1/4-fairingness -
all that plastic to break is a worry!

Feeling a little down today are we?
You should try one, just for the hell of it.
    Litre bikes rock.
But there again everything is too tall for me, it's just a matter of
    degree of tootallness.
I have never wanted to change my GSXR1000.
Bear's old bike was relaly nice. My old ZXR750 is really nice and you've
    ridden that.
Not bad but a but too flash for me.

Tyre cost. I was going through a back tyre every two months which
meant I was spending 900 quid a year on rear tyres alone. The new
bike will be used to commute a couple of days a week but not as much
    as the old one.
That's why you bought it :)
Seriously? What on earth have you had done to them? Seal kits and
    rebuild wasn't that much surely?

    Ben, Dec 16, 2003

  10. that's a bummer. You do seem to have this "buy a bike, wait
two months, oh *shit* the taxman/whoever is after me, sell bike"
thing going on at the moment.
    Indeed.

In a good way, in that I haven't been fired or anything. In a bad way, in
that we're probably moving to an office near Heathrow. Oh, and all the
design work and coordination with suppliers up here in town will have to be
torn up and re-done. Which puts me squarely on the critical path for the
    entire project.

Still, I get an easy bike commute to work along some well-surfaced curvy
    dual carriageways.

K' that figures. I'm still on the front it had when I bought it and the
rear I had done a couple of days later. They are both in need of
changing though, as is the chain. Still that's for after Christmas, I've
got a car from work at the moment and it's tooooooo cold for biking :)
When I get the chain and stuff done the Micron is going back on it as
    well, 'just because' :)
Nah it wasn't really £500 for the brakes, the service, MOT and some
other stuff (fixing the electrics) came to just under £500. Bit of a
shock to be honest but I had budgeted for it. The brakes are miles
better to be honest but there are still times when I think "hmm not
stopping very fast here" and have to grab harder than I care to.

    You *like* re-work, right?
aren't they filled with crazed unlicenced Acton minicabs, though?
    Certainly the A4 is...

I sorted the taxman out, by borrowing money of a relative. I need to
pay that person back at some point, though.

I'm going to have to learn to like it. I don't actually mind the location,
as such - I'm spending £100 a month on my Oyster card, and a fucking fortune
on crayfish, rocket, ciabatta and cassoulet at lunchtime. It takes me an
hour each way to get to work, whereas at the new place it'll take about 15
    minutes by bike.

We're dealing with facilities houses, though, who as well as giving us our
office space and access to equipment, they provide expertise, consultancy,
equipment procurement and leasing, repair and management services, etc.

So, naturally, all the work done so far assumed the existence of these
services at the place we were planning to move to. Now it's to be
(potentially) a different venue, all the services, incumbent kit, yaddah
yaddah, are different. So, pretty much every bit of documentation I've done
post-requirements (and possibly the requirements themselves) have to be
revisited. It's a really good job there are no weapons in the office today,
otherwise I fear someone would "get theirs".
Oh, no, it's all dead posh on the A316, dontcha know ...

I feel like that a lot of the time. Though apparently, I'm a
"corporate whore" now, and ought to learn to like it.
