    Indeed.

Tell you what really appeals to me - the new Z750.[/QUOTE]

Quite. Dunno what the price is, but if they get it right it should do
really well in the naked mid-market.

That thought had crossed my mind, especially as I have a mate who's
into mx. Was think more along the lines of 2k on a crosser and the
rest on another 99 GSXR750 for road use. It's a plan worth further
consideration, but I'd need to get a road-legal mx bike or a van to
    get it around.

It is, but it looks utterly mad which is why I like it.
I'm coming to a conclusion that the best bet may be a brand new
GSXR750. I know what they're like to ride and they're cheap with the
K4 model about to come out. Plus the power to weight ratio is the
same as an R1 and only just off the Thou so for my use, there is
    bugger all in it.

Insurance :-| Plus I don't need something quite that quick, just
    quick is enough.

ISTR the exact same sentiments when the Z1000 first appeared.

Nooooo. Go for the year old thou - it's _so_ much better, you owe it
    to yourself.

Well, not a bad idea. I reckon there's two downsides tho
    - you've already had a gixxer 7 - don't you hanker for something
    different.
    - the new gixxer 7 will be a rev monster like the old one, which I
think you got a little bored with. For my money, the *great* thing
about litre bikes is that you can ride them without a crescendo of
revs, which makes them much more fun when you're not going for it.

I was thinking about one of these, but the review in Bike's put me off a
bit. The new bike's much smaller and more cramped, and it sounds like the
handling's maybe the wrong side of "entertaining". I'd like something I can
just sit on and ride without worrying that it was about to kill me. I'll
almost certainly have a test ride on one, though
Since I may not be working in London for very much longer, I think the
shiteoldbike notion can safely be put on the back-burner.

Yes, but the new one is a pretty different bike to my old one. It's
got 25bhp more for a start.
For commuting it was not a good choice. But this bike is a toy.
I like the crescendo of revs :) But I see what you mean.

If I do get paid the theoretical bonus that I'm theoreticall entitled
to, I may be in a similar position by April/May next year (providing I
don't lose my licence in February!) looking for a replacement for my
    'blade.
Not interested in either of these. Had a Bandit, liked it, but it's
definitely "been there, done that" AFAIC.
No thanks. Not ridden one, but just don't fancy it.
Had a go on one, didn't find it suited me nearly as much as the
    'blade, so no real point.
Used to want one, then I rode a litre-bike.
Nice bike, though bizarrely I found it ever so slightly too tall for
me, which is off for a sportsbike.
Well, I'm more than happy with my '01 'blade, just fancy a change.
    no kwackers for me, ta.
this is my current top choice.

The only "good way" would be working at home, surely?

Having to go to an office, but not in London - ugh.

well, I was thinking "good way" as in "Moving to another office
somewhere" rather than "have just been fired".
Tell me about it - I had to work in an office Windsor for 5 months
last year - that *really* sucked.

I dunno, working in an office in Milan was quite cool for a month or
so.. and I didn't dislike working in central Leeds.
OTOH, working in an office in Oldham for 9 months was shit.
