Dunno. But if you extrapolate our population out to match China's, our
national toll for 2002 would be around 70,000.

I'm basing this on China having 900 million people and Oz 20 million.
I'm not sure of exact figures.

But is this a linear extrapolation or exponential? Considering that this
is a two dimensional domain (the surface of the planet) then a power of
two extrapolation might be more logical.[1]

A _real_ politician would have known that Australia passed the 20,000,000
    milestone on December 4th 2003. :)

On 19 January 2004 at 12:56:28 (Canberra time), the resident population of
Australia is projected to be: 20,031,720.

Well, then my calcs were way off. If China's population is 65 times that
of Oz, then the 1,600 deaths on Oz roads in 2002 would extrapolate to
around 104,356 deaths. What was China's again???

methinks the average chinese person doesn't spend quite as much time in

For the sake of a true comparison I used the same time period.

A true statistician would have known that!

I'm really disappointed that my witty play on the Niw Zullund pronunciation
of 'dickscan' went uncommentedupon. So fukyiz.

The toll doesn't necessarily have to reflect car crashes. Our road toll
includes all road users, such as peds, cyclists, etc. Is China's method
    of measuring the toll different?

Chinese New Year today.. so I guess the reset the counter to 0 and had a lower
road toll than Australia for a few minutes.
