It'll bring pleasure to millions, though. Why the sneer?

The sneer, afair, is reserved for those who hold up Harry Potter as the
saviour of adult literacy and childhood reading rather than the jolly
    popular /childrens/ book it is.

I've read them, the first few as bedtime stories for Jess then when she'd
read them to discuss what happened. If truth be known I wanted to know
what happened although she hasn't really bothered with the last two.

They're no worse than Alastair Maclean (more fucking plausible anyway)
but something that shouldn't be read in public by anyone aged over
    fifteen.

Maybe not the saviour, but my understanding is that HP has done much
    to promote both.
I've been known to read Harry Potter, Winnie the Pooh and Wind in the
Willows in public, more than once, for pleasure. But I can't get my
knee down. 10/10 for sadness, then.

The Daily Mail brings pleasure to millions.

For the nth time: popular <> good.

Fair point. I chose the wrong argument.

and good is in the eye of the beholder, like beauty.

Well, in reverse order of having ridden the things, a 400 Four, a
    RGV250, a Fireblade, a ZX-7R and a BMW R65LS. I guess you're attempting
to make some sort of comment about the 'blade.
you're right and yet so wrong.

  9. no, not really. I was wondering if you had a bike which is generally
regarded as ugly and or crap but which you obviously like/liked... in fact,
IMHO, the R65 is not very attractive, I prefer the style of the R60. But
    that's just my opinion.

the 'blade and the ZX7R are certainly popular, but they're also reckoned,
within their class, to be good as well.

"The breezy call of incense-breathing Morn, The swallow twittering
from the strawbuilt shed, The cock's shrill clarion, or the echoing
horn, No more shall rouse them from their lowly bed."

no, I agree, the R65LS is a very, very ugly motorcycle. It goes OK,
mind (well, it would if it weren't borked).
