I was, as you may recall. Now I've just gotta find out how to get the
    pictures off my phone...
    I heard you.

  2. Too right. The NI routes are always a bit more costly than the southern
    routes, and shorter to boot.

Just not worthwhile taking a car over on the ferry during the summer
season - the prices plummet in winter. Bikes are always good value
    though.

Of the two southern operators, Irish Ferries are much more flexible and
a bit cheaper than Stena. When I brought the Scim back, IF only charged
me an extra 30quid for a complete extra car, while Stena rooked me for
60 quid this March for a bike trailer, the cunts.

The other problem was that they had to be maintained as aircraft, not boats.
    Which was expensive.

  5. Last 3 times I've done day boats out of Sharm it's varied between £345
    & £360 for B&B, flights, and 10 dives.

Is Sharm el Sheik the best base or are there other places you'd
recommend (bloody windy place from what I remember of it from the one
    time I was there)

  7. Sharm's the only Red Sea resort I've been too, I didn't really find it
that windy in January but then I was using a 3mm shortie[1]. If I were
only considering myself I'd go for a liveaboard, I don't suppose the
total cost of a week + extra's would be that much different.

I know someone who has a property in El Gouna
http://www.georginac.supanet.com/ available for rent if you fancy
    something different.

I had a nice sandwich yesterday for £2.20

Which is about as relevant to the topic as your comment.

    They did?
I travelled on them twice, they were impressive beasts in a WWII Tech
    sort of way.

I like Hovercrafts a lot, one of the 1st attempts at a commercial
service was on the Clyde running from Bute. The ramp was across the road
from our front gate. It was one of these in non Super 6 form. To a 5 y/o
it was Flash Gordon come real.

    I'd certainly do it again.

But I'd prefer it to be a little warmer, and perhaps not involve getting
up at 2:30 in the morning.

Not really, no; but she thought it was good that I took part.

AndrewR's missus, on the other hand, wasn't at all impressed with his
    participation.

Don't worry, the early morning breeze coming up the Tyne would soon have
    sorted that out.
