pish and tosh - I've performed a lot more dodgy overtaking stunts than
    that in my time.
no, really, it seemed a "safe" enough manoevure to me.

You were the one who used the word "rotund". As I pointed out at the time,
my "rotund" appearance was in no small part due to having the whole
"monotréme en forme de canard constipée" thang going on as a result of my
    comedy rib wounds.

How much to repeat the half-somersault?

  4. might not be to you, mate. But ToG has just intimated that the whole
weekend at chimay cost about that much, and 150 for the ferry alone is a bit
fucking steep, assuming that's what it was. If you're quoting a whole-trip
price, then it's about the same, of course.

    hmmmm:

    try typing
    http://www.irish-ferries.com/
    into yer browser...

proper one hasn't got the hyphen in it...

midsummer prices for a bike+rider, 5-day return, on the ordinary ferry to
Ireland, 78 quid. 84 quid on the fast thing.

It was an exclusive, one-off "happening". No pics, no videos, you had to Be
    There.

    It's an "art" thing.

Well, Chimay cost me £74 for Eurotunnel, around the same in fuel, £10
to get in, and around €150 went walkies for food, beer, coffee, etc.

So, around nearer to £250-£275 for my three day jaunt.

Still a bargain - though I might consider taking a more frugal bike,
    next year.

  7. I've paid £130 for the crossing to Stromness (90 minutes) so £150 for
    IOM doesn't seem that bad.
My understanding was that the most expensive crossing per mile was the
isle of wight. I paid around £80 on a day return 15 years ago for work
    and it's about 3 miles.

Get yourself a big boat and a driver, and charge 200, and you'll make
    a fortune. Right?

  13. No, otherwise he'd have had somewhere to park it.

  14. Mine was 55 quid for the ferry, 20 quid for the hotel room, 20 quid for
dinner that night, 45 quid for fuel, plus beers...

OK, a bit more than 150 quid, then, but not much.
    An H1, then.

  15. no I didn't. I said it costs a bloody fortune to *go* to the IOM. OK,
grant that 150 quid for the ferry is correct (I've no reason to doubt it),
that doesn't include yer accomodation, beer and food for a week...

to "do" the TT meaningfully, (assuming we're talking about the TT of course)
    is not exactly cheap.

and WRT the channel/IOM comparison, I was comparing it with the irish routes
to Dublin or Rosslare, equally far if not further, OK, more traffic. in the
off season it costs 30 quid return for a bike, and it's only 78 in
midusmmer. TT is in June, ISTR, so not in high season, I think it were 60
    quid then.

and "fortune" is relative. If I have problems finding spare cash for a tyre
and MOT on the bike, then 150 quid to put it on a boat is a fortune. If you
can spare 150 quid easily and not be bothered, lucky ol' you.

This whole comparison is completely fatuous.

I won't disagree that one can spend a weekend in Chimay for less money
than a week in the Isle of Man. Please also note also that Mars bars
    are cheaper than caviar.

We started this by me noting that you can get as close to the action
on the IoM as you can at Chimay. That is still true.

    <ponders>
Fancy a new job on the briny then.

Not a ferry, too much infrastructure required at each end and a bit
slow. A Hovercraft, on the scale of the old Dover-Calais craft. Just
needs a big load ramp on either side of the channel. We could make money
on that and I could raise a couple of mill investment capital on that
idea any day. I don't think anyone makes a car transported 'craft on
that scale any more though. Be a steal if we could run turbines on green
    diesel bought in the Republic.

I was walking along the Portstewart Strand beach recently and watching
the jetskis doing that utterly fucking tedious useless thing they do.
Tearing up and down parallel to the beach going nowhere over and over
again, when it struck me. Not for the first time it must be said. One of
these www.hovpod.com/index.html or similar would be way better fun and
    much more flexible.

Given that the hovercraft running the english channel packed up a
couple of years ago cos it was uneconomic, I'd be surprised if you can
float a similar operation in the irish sea. Especially as one of the
main issues for the hovercraft was the frequency in which crossings
had to be cancelled due to bad weather. I didn't think the irish sea
was noted for its regular calm conditions :)

Which is why they use the high speed cats now in the channel, and
these are already running on the NI route, so I doubt you'd even have
    much of a speed advantage.

    Oi stop spoiling my daydream!
One of the problems with the Cross Channel 'craft was their age and
engine configuration. Made them very expensive to run. Modern craft are
cheaper and also more weather capable. Not as large though! Trouble
with a Sea Cat is the sheer cost of the beast. Anyway my point was that
at £100 return a car you could probably make money and put Stenaline out
    of commission.
