Wev'e booked a tunnel crossing for 20:20 on Thursday 14th July
returning 14:50 on Monday 18th plus a room in the Ibis at Calais
Coquelles for the Thursday night. The Ibis is currently 56 Euros for
the night which isn't bad considering you can get a beer until late so
rushing to get there isn't essential.

We've decided to stay for the racing on the Sunday and travel home on
the Monday because it always seems a bit of a waste leaving there when
there's still loads of racing to watch plus another evening out in the
town eating Belgian pizza and drinking beer.

We'll be pitching camp in the normal area of the site so those that
have been before know where to avoid and those that haven't need to
    guess.

    Oh Phuck.

I would appear to be in holiday from the 16th, with a probable need to
be in France at some point that week.

    Umm...

I'll be bunging a leave request in shortly, though not having been in
the office for almost three weeks I need to show my face first.

Won't be staying over the Sunday night though - insert the usual whinge
    about leave here.

Camping? I'm sure he'd enjoy the daytime part but I don't think he'd
    like the nights.

OK, I'm in for the Saturday and Sunday nights.

Do I need to buy circuit tickets and book camping ahead of time?

No, you just turn up and buy a wristband at the gate.

Excellent, I shall be there this year too, if only to try out my new
    and much smaller tent[1][2].
I didn't when I went. I paid at the gate IIRC

[1] Vango Alpha 200 - 35 quids. Smaller and a fair bit quicker and
easier to use... plus it fits in my topbox easily.
[2] Replaces the 50 quid, 10 year old Vango Gamma 250 I threw in a skip
outside a hotel in Civitavecchia. There was nothing wrong with it, but
I decided to use hotels and if I'd had a tent I'd have given in to my
pikey side and used it... so I binned it.

I've been using and Alpha 300 for the last few years. Great bit of
kit, particularly for the price, not to mention palatial.

The 200 is hardly palatial, it's tiny compared to what I had, but the
250 was too big and bloody heavy. This thing weighs three parts of ****
    all.

We've got piles of camping gear and we'll be in the car as we're taking
The Boy (if I can blag him out of school for this cultural expedition)
so we'll have space for excess. Depending on how many guitars he wants
    to take, of course.

That's very kind of you to offer, but if there's one thing worse than
camping, it's camping *and* sharing a tent!
