So is it *absolutely* necessary to camp out on the site if the weather
is truly horrendous? have alternatives been pushed around?

We had 3 consecutive thunder storms cross Leeds today. I haven't seen
anything like it, even at sea or in Florida. The cloud cover was down to
100ft and the thunder was ear splitting. I went out in full PVC
construction waterproofs and hard hat to experience it. Just like
standing under a waterfall. You couldn't see more than a few metres and
the flooding built up like a rip tide. All the traffic had to stop.
Nurses in white uniforms were running in various directions, skimpy NHS
uniforms see through within seconds ;o) All the roof gutters were
overwhelmed and cascades started to pour off the buildings. I ducked
back inside when the lightning turned from sheet to forks.

So given that it's not entirely unlikely it could follow one to
    Chimay..... thoughts?

I guess if the weather's that bad, there'll be no racing, so we all go
    wherever we feel like.

    You big poof.
I've re-waterproofed my tent, and I'm taking my army-surplus poncho.

What are your travel plans. I haven't made decisions between a Thursday
night or Friday tramp down from Leeds yet.

  8. There is no hotel accommodation spare at Chimay on the weekend. Trust me
    on this.

If it's pigging awful, then it's head for home and find a Campanile
hotel for the Saturday night, for me, at any rate.

  9. Aye, they're normally bunched with a Premier Class so accommodating a big
    bunch shouldn't be a prob.

<makes mental note to pack hotel guides, before departure in case of

  10. In message
Forecast has got even worse for Charleroi now - rain and storms, unless
that changes I can't even see me Col and Dan coming at all. I can cope
with one day heavy rain, but I see no point in putting up with all that
only to abandon the Saturday anyway.

Anything going on UK wise this weekend?

The weather's changing so quickly at the moment that it's not worth
trying to plan for it in advance, just deal with whatever it throws at
    you at the time.

Well I guess waking up in Mauberge on Saturday will make the follow on
    plan obvious.

    It will.

I'll be deciding if I go tomorrow after finding out if I need another
weeks worth of bloody pills for this stupid throat infection. If I
can't drink *and* it's pissing down with rain, then a night in a French
hotel with pissed up UKRMers, before a day's ride home in the wet
    doesn't appeal all that much.

    Perzackly.

I can just see you surging through the tumultuous flooded streets,
flashing through the spume, leaving those less fortunate in the
massive wake created by the propulsion power of your mighty rotating
    clown shoes.
