The CBX only plays one tune, but holding 7k revs outside the
immigration booth might have hindered my progress, I fear.

If you want to get all Spocky, I think it's impossible *not* to travel
anywhere without arriving with less motorcycle than when you started - i.e.
bit less rubber on the tyres, bit less meat on the brake pads, microscopic
amounts of engine metal coughing out the exhausts... but hey, let's not
take it too seriously, eh ;-)

I let meself in for a treat, and went to the concretetones over the
bridge. I though the bloke in the cubicle next to me was dying. The
noises! "groan" "splosh!" "oooh" "splosh" "Splurgde" "whimper"
    "Ow!"Prrrrrp!" "aaaah", etc.
Aye. Good job we weren't hungry. The icecream's okay, accoridng to
LAura. We just had frites and beeer/water.

Oh, and while Iremeber - A purple H2C turned up - gorgeous it was -
I'm not sure who was more captivated - me or TOG.

    They all do that, Sir.
    Wear and tear
    as above
    as above
They all do that, Sir. The one on my 748 left at some unknown
point in ownership and I now have to pull the cable where the
lock should be to get it open.
    Wear and tear.
I've not heard of this so much, but I guess it would
be down to wear. Or maybe the extra burden.
A bit pricey, tbh. Alloy ones off the 900 go for upto £40
and are nearly a kilogram lighter, but you need to change
the rear spindle to match if it doesn't come with one.
They do seem a bit weak. I've got a ding in the front of
mine which may or may not need to be fixed. I'm now
converting the front end to run later SSie forks (proper
Showa jobbies) and they use a 916 spindle of 20mm
rather than the 17mm of the SS, and we have to pull
the bearings and change the internal spacer to match.

The bearings are a quid each and the spacer 6 quid
from Ducati direct, so not a big cost to convert!
The 748 is still on the same (oem Brembo) pads at 11K
miles and they're not even half worn yet. Gotta love
    that engine braking!

I've decided to flog off all the road kit from the 600SS,
so if you (or Bruce) want anything then let me know.
I've got lights, panels, clocks, lockset with keys (inc. tank
cap), seat, steel swingarm, full brake system, clutch
master cylinder, two pairs of forks and lots of other bits
and pieces I no longer need and want to sell off.

I know he had valuable cargo on board (beer, obviously), but he was

<schtum> Wild horses would not drag an admission from me thet I rode
into the back of the Wing at a junction, whilst checking for other
    traffic.

It's his own fault, he should have gone, there was nowt coming.
But not on the straights. By some margin.

Being road-fixable is an asset all right - (Fond recollection .... it
makes for a memorable journey when a loose valve guide has been
    temporarily secured with Araldite.)

Ye Gods, man!! How pissed/hungover were you all?

It would have taken the worst kind of desperation to get me to eat there
    again!

And I'd have remembered, too! Pissed or hungover!
There was summat similar at Rivvy Barn a couple of weeks ago...I think
Christofire got a snap on his phone.

IIRC, he got a snap of the perfect bike for BGN, too... a Z13 in pink, wif
blue, flowery borders on all the panels.

I adjusted the convoy distance from then on ;)

Nice. I can still taste the air that was in the thunderbox in the
    Patisserie on Sunday morning.

Madame was less than chuffed with the genteel clientele gagging and
    exiting the shop.

<note to self, up early next year and into town post haste to deface
the facilites before the rest of the campsite> ;)

  16. Shouldn't make any difference to a normal day-running bike if you've not
got every aftermarket accessory switched on and outstripping alternator
output. Your alternator should be supplying enough to run the normal
complement of headlight, tail, brake, stop and indicators as well as the
ignition system with a bit to spare and the size of the battery won't
    affect that.

I'd be looking at the reg/rec or the alternator with a DVM first and if
that all checks out ok, then get the new battery if the old one seems a
    bit duff.

Is the old one sulphated looking?

In terms of total weight loss/gain, I am sure that I've arrived home
with enough assorted insects and other flying creatures plastered all
over me to at least balance the losses you identified.

I don't think the size was the issue - but the condition may be.

A CBX has no accessories. Indicating/braking caused a noticeable
misfire, as did dropping below 3k revs. Above that, it ran as fine as
    you'd like.
No idea = it's under the seat - which is why it didn't get looked at
earlier. The seat's a bolt-on affair on a CBX, plus I hada mountain of
    luggage bungieed on top.

I just hoped it wouldn't fail before I got home - the Blackwall Tunnel
    was my biggest worry.

    I think I'll go and have a look now. <toddles off>

  20. Ooh, I've got a scratched fairing panel. Not sure if your graphics are
    the same as mine.

And I've *still* got a rear wheel with your name o it.
