I fear that a mate and I (hopefully with a new bike by then) shall be there
in 2008, too. I shan't approach the UKRM camp, naturally enough, as one
person on here has already threatened me with physical violence, and I
daresay that some others have thought it, but if any UKRMers whom I've met
before and who still believe it possible to be civil with me want to share
    a beer, they'll be welcome.

Sarolea? Old Belgian arms company, started building bikes in 1898. If it's
the one I'm thinking of, I've got a picture somewhere.

You're such a drama queen. I really doubt anyone there would be in the
slightest way inclined to do you any damage, other than verbally, and
even then it would only be by taking the piss.

You really need to stop being so paranoid.

    That's the one!
    Pictures were taken.

I *really* like the look of the newer Guzzi Cali type bikes. The ones with
panniers, screen, twin front Brembo 4 pots and wire wheels. Somewhat like
    this:
    www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2006/04/29/mfguzzi29.xml
    One would be very you.

I'm sure at any UKRM meet-up a direct confrontation would have several of us
intervening to prevent any real trouble however a helping of Coventry might
be in evidence. I can only think of two or three people who would be so
    unpopular though.

But really, think about what you've just written. Someone being so
unpopular because of what he's written _on_a_screen_ ?

I genuinely believe you're underestimating things.

I need to own a Guzzi at some point. Calis I've sat on have certain
riding-position issues, though. Perhaps I'll get one next summer, see how I
    get on with it.

  9. Contrary to what you may believe words are quite powerful things -
whether delivered via Usenet or by mouth. There is very little
difference (in my eyes) to communication delivered via UKRM, via email
or via phone except for the lack of the audio clues in the voice comms.

You are what you say. When you spout stuff designed to make people
dislike you then people will dislike you. It's called human nature.

Succinctly and accurately put. I mean, some twat who's just scrawled
WOGS OUT on the nearest wall might as well ask: "Unpopular because of
what I wrote on a wall?"

If it's all you have to judge someone on, you go by that.

Sounds like they'd be pretty popular round here, if you ask me.

    That's the thing: I don't. I post an innocent (albeit off-topic) rant
about some a lorry making noise outside my flat. That gets some fuckwit to
ask, 'are they Israeli?' [1], and before we know where we are, the loons
are coming out of the woodwork and UKRM has engaged 'get 'im!' mode.

    [1] I mean, FFS...

  15. Which is where not rising to the bait comes in. And lets face it - you
are not exactly innocent on the 'trolling for response' front or the
'saying things you don't mean to shock people' front.

    Think about this:

"We judge ourselves by our intentions and other people by their
    actions".

    Besides ..
I'm _reasonably_ convinced that where I'm concerned, UKRM would have a
''didn't see a thing, officer' moment.

Get a grip, this isn't real life. It's like two blokes playing some sort
of flight simulator over the 'net and when they next meet, the one who got
shot down, punches the other, 'cos he beat him.

You cunts need to get out more.

I can say with my hand on my Torah that I have not 'trolled' _once_ since I
came back here in, what was it, April .?

Okay, you've seen who attended Chimay this year.
I won't ask you to name names, but how many of those there do you
    seriously
believe would attempt to occasion actual bodily harm upon you?

    I can't think of one.

The worst possible outcome(IMO) would be that one or two folk would
give you the cold shoulder, or be a bit rude.

There have been individuals with far more intense feelings of mutual
disaffection [real, personal, stuff, not a few usenet jibes] than
    you've
been exposed to, who've managed to remain civil (if a little frosty)
    on
all the meets I can recall attending.

    SaladDodger, Jul 24, 2007
  20. Bzzt. You lose. It's as much 'real life' as any other form of social
    interaction.

And the key here is 'social interaction' - I freely admit it's not my
primary skill (especially on-line as I miss a lot of the body-language
clues) but I seem to be streets ahead of you.

Pre-internet were hand-written letters 'real life'? Of course they
    were.

Taken to it's logical conclusion your premise means that nothing we say
has any meaning - after all "it's just words".
