Sounds like they'd be pretty popular round here, if you ask me.

  3. Which is where not rising to the bait comes in. And lets face it - you
are not exactly innocent on the 'trolling for response' front or the
'saying things you don't mean to shock people' front.

    Think about this:

"We judge ourselves by our intentions and other people by their
    actions".

Okay, you've seen who attended Chimay this year.
I won't ask you to name names, but how many of those there do you
    seriously
believe would attempt to occasion actual bodily harm upon you?

    I can't think of one.

The worst possible outcome(IMO) would be that one or two folk would
give you the cold shoulder, or be a bit rude.

There have been individuals with far more intense feelings of mutual
disaffection [real, personal, stuff, not a few usenet jibes] than
    you've
been exposed to, who've managed to remain civil (if a little frosty)
    on
all the meets I can recall attending.

  5. Bzzt. You lose. It's as much 'real life' as any other form of social
    interaction.

And the key here is 'social interaction' - I freely admit it's not my
primary skill (especially on-line as I miss a lot of the body-language
clues) but I seem to be streets ahead of you.

Pre-internet were hand-written letters 'real life'? Of course they
    were.

Taken to it's logical conclusion your premise means that nothing we say
has any meaning - after all "it's just words".

  6. Then you show a remarkable lack of awareness about how other people
will take your words. Your words about Palestinians, your trite little
phrases about other UKRM posters that you trot out - all designed to
make other people think of you as a clueless troll.

For a teacher you show very little communications ability.

The issue with your posts, from my perspective, isn't that they are any
ruder than anyone elses. It's the fact that they degrade into threads
that are terminally boring with you adopting what appears to be a
schoolboy type persona insisting you've "won" all the time etc.

It's not only the fact it's you in the threads that bores me to tears,
it's everyone else. There's little in the way of humour.

Then, we compound that with the oft expressed persecution complex and,
well, to be blunt it's a more interesting place when you're not here.

You state that the arrogant, sarcastic poster isn't your real life
persona, all well and good. However it is your real life person that
makes those posts which make this NG a more tedious place than I'd like
it to be; I suspect that's what people take umbrage at (assuming others
have similar views to I and, to be blunt, it's not something that
exercises much thought on my part.)

  10. Ah, a pillion throttle. Do you think an outfit might steer and handle
better if the pilot is dead?

  11. I don't know if it will do any good but I would just like to point out
at this stage that I am not a cantankerous senile old git who smells of
wee, it is just my Usenet persona.

I doubt it, a few might be pushing to the front to take pictures, a
few might turn their backs and ignore it but the majority would stop
    any violence taking place.

An outfit - well, my outfit, anyway - is sensitive and responsive to changes
in speed, camber, gradient, loading, throttle position etc, rotates around
all three axes as well as deflecting along them. Gyp recently opined that
the whole thing seemed to be made of rubber. Driver input isn't the
smallest of these influences, by a long chalk, so a deceased driver will
certainly have an effect on the progress of the outfit. Whether or not this
is a beneficial effect is possibly best determined by experimentation.

In this, as with the episode of the Fruity Tart, the Ural was effortlessly

That's the point where we strongly differ. Usenet is not real life, but
an extension of it (ok, this assumes one has a real life...) Most of us
have met some other newsgroups participants in the flesh (or have had
interaction with their real life, for instance by helping them
buy/fix/sell the bloody bike). Now, of course, this requires to have
social skills slightly above those of an oyster, and not considering
    newsgroups as a release for one's "mal-être".
