How many started riding when you had a child or did you stop when you had a
child. Is it a big deal to your other half?

I'll get flamed to bits I reckon, but here we go:

An impending child didn't stop me riding, in fact my other half and I
toured a bit of Aus in 1999 when she was 5 months pregnant.

At 10 months old she was at the Isle of Man (by car while I rode the
bike over) and whilst she couldn't really appreciate things, she
    wasn't a hindrance to us.

I bought Beth a proper full face 'kids lid' 2 months before her 5th
birthday and took her riding on my BMW R80 with heightened rear
footpegs so that she could be with me, I even got rid of my dear old
Speed Triple so that I could do this as it'd not be easy to engineer
higher pegs on it, and the riding stance didn't lend itself to having
    a tot on the back.

She'd been looking forward to it for ages and loved the 'exploratory'
    trip round the block.
Now 5 and a half she has her own proper gloves and armoured jacket,
boots and loves going with me.
Her mum understands and lets us go, provided we do so carefully.
She was at her first rally last September and far from being bored,
    really enjoyed it.

I know many will think it's inconsiderate, reckless or even dangerous
to be taking one this young on the bike, but she's sensible, she knows
the rules about holding on and behaves very well.
I never ride city centres during peak traffic, I won't ride any of the
'hoon' roads and won't do over 50 with her on the back - oddly enough
I don't mind - maybe I'm just getting older and more sedate.
I use a Pillion Pal to give her something to hang onto and she does
    just fine.
We also haven't gone beyond about 40 miles at a stretch, but thats
more about her getting the "are we nearly there yet" syndrome than
    anything else!

The main thing for me is that I am still riding long after many of my
contemporaries have faded to the family saloon.
Oh, and I also have a fine apprentice to whom I can pass the keys when
    she's old enough.

So now you leave her out of shotgun range in a place where the climate
dictates a need for minimal body coverings........

I won't have to worry. The other half is adamant about no marriage and no
kids. So that's the end of it I guess!

When our son was born I sold the bike to buy a clothes dryer for the nappies
and to do up the house a bit (nesting syndrome and all that). He was about a
year old when I got another bike and he was soon sitting in front of me doing
laps around the back yard, laughing his head off all the time. That bike lasted
two or three years, then a year off, and the next one arrived when he was five.
That's a bit big for sitting on the tank so he found his way to the pillion.

We've still got the clothes drier 25 years later, probably worth more now than
the old Honda that was sacrificed for it.

The guy next a few years ago had a Harley and a five year old son who was tiny
for his age. They'd go off riding looking like he had a koala hugging up behind
    him.
