Chicken strips

OK, so I passed my test but three short months ago, and until the recent
dry/warm spell had chicken strips about 50mm (2" for the unconverted)
    wide on my rear tyre.

Last weekend saw these reduced to about 15mm (half inch) which was fun.
Now it's clear from the underside of my footpegs that they've never been
scraped on the ground so my questions is:-

What's most likely to happen first?

    1. I'll use all of the tyre
    2. footpegs hit the ground
    3. I'll fall off trying

Depends if your suspension is setup correctly or not. You shouldn't
do (2) before (1) if it's correct. You may ride off the edge of the
    tyre,
    but that's highly unlikely.

My mates VFR V-Tech scrapes the pegs ergularly, but the tyre is no where
near the edge according to the 'chicken strips'

It does depend what sort of bike, or even what bike you have.
Assuming standard suspension and tyre sizes, you should be able to get
to the edge of the tyre before touching anything down - but not on a
    cruiser.

Your pegs are hinged so that they will fold in when they contact the
tarmac - this is normal. Levering the tyre off the tarmac only
happens when something solid touches down - centrestands are good at
this. Link pipes and end can leading edges are also solid contenders
for causing problems, and if you start touching these down you'll be
strip-free guaranteed, as the contact patch is moving off the edge of
    the tyre.

Falling off is not an absolute requirement, unless you're attempting
walking pace kneedowns. You /will/ be amazed at the angle to which
you can lean a bike before /anything/ touches down. Just keep your
speed up, keep leaning and keep on a positive throttle and you'll be
    fine ;-)

Depends on bike and setup of it. On my ZX-9R I only get to do 1. On my
old ZXR-750 I did lots of 2, followed some 6 months later by 3 and a write
off. Luckily I walked away from it.

    Don't try too hard.

It's best to really not care what others think about your pristine hero
blobs. Actually, you can put a full stop after 'think'.

    ==> SV650

Which one, the S or unfaired?

Either way, you will be able to get rid of all the chicken strip on the
_back_ tyre. The front, probably not unless you're doing very low speed
    stuff.

You can get the pegs down on an SV (I did occasionally on mine) but as
others will attest high lean angle does not amount to high speed :)

You can lean SV's a long long way though - I think Ben Sales discovered
the chamfer on the exhaust isn't just for show as well.

    DFC though.

It's a solid thing like engine bars or exhausts which will have you off
    as quick as nine-pins.

Wot 'e said and also, once you *have* scraped the pegs, you'll be doing
it at every opportunity and then some.

When I had 020s on my Bandit, I could only de-chicken the front by
trapping my boots between the frame and the road :)

    BT45s were the same.

It's a shame I've been able to do the same with a R1 on Racetecs, FFS!
