Chicken strip problem

I can't quite get rid of the last half inch on the CB5. The hero blobs
are grinding, and I don't yet have the balls to go any further down.

Should I accept that I've done the necessary? Or is there some lateral
thinking available to the FOAK that will nail this one? (Suggestions of
sandpaper or hacksaws would miss the point of the exercise.)

No doubt if I go around a roundabout continuously, the blobs will begin
to grind down. But at what rate?

Stop trying to do it. You're actively trying, which will probably make
you more tense and won't help if the purpose is "going faster".

FWIW, although there's none on my rear tyre, the front tyre has
mahoosive strips. Don't know why though.

Maybe you should put big arrows and signs pointing to your worn hero
blobs instead? That would stop everyone being so worried about the
    unworn portion of your tyres.

Actually, the blobs didn't start to grind until I tried to take a
roundabout at greater speed than usual and wasn't thinking about how
much I was leaning. As the footpegs are hinged, the bike should go down
further than the initial scraping position. Has anyone tried this
successfully, and would they do it regularly?

Don't worry about it, I've still some and I was scraping the pegs today - so
I'll not be leaning over much further...

I asked about this last year, on account of my tyres being similar,
and got told the answer to the front one lies in counter-steering.

I have little inclination to put it to the test just yet, but someone
with a more crashable steed might care to try and report back?

My TLS used to ride off the edge of the front tyres with my "then" obsession
for GMKD. They will do it but you aren't a long way from the edge of the
    envelope IME.

When you say CB5, I assume you mean a CB500.

They have small tyres. They are difficult to get right to the side
wall. I've got chicken strips on the rear of about 1.5cm of my ER-5,
but it would be difficult to clear that last cm without doing it
    properly sideways.

Well thank you for that. Oddly enough, I actually know what
counter-steering is, and how to do it. What I was saying was that it
also has the effect of turning the front wheel such that, the harder
you do it, the more likely the edges of the front tyre are to get
    scrubbed.

Few people realise that speed plays a massive role in chicken strips. Go
down a fast A road at illegal speeds without getting particularly low
and you'll still remove most of the virgin rubber, pretty much to the
edge anyway, due to the tyre deforming

It's all ego and posturing - don't worry about it 'cos it's all
    bollocks...

Maybe it's a macho thing, or one of those middle aged things if he is

WHy not just focus on enjoying your riding and let the strips sort
    themselves out?

    Heh... indeed.
Apparently titanium ones are the ones to have... apparently... I'd
sooner spend the money on titanium bolts.

    BGN says...
Bollocks. I took the chicken strips off the rear of Jasmine's ER-5 on
BT45s without really pushing it to the limits. It wasn't my bike and
it's Jas's pride and joy as well as being her only means of transport,
    so I wasn't going mental.

I'll have to work on those strips.

I've got to comfy stage now with my riding. I like my road position,
speed and acceleration. I think it's time I booked a few hours with
my original riding school so they can shoot holes in me.

It's here at the moment. She even said I could take it out for a play. I
think I better not, though, just in case...

I'm using a 5bhp bike to practise on at the moment - the ER-5 would be a
luxury stunt bike in comparison, but Jas would kill me
