A pair of silencers for my Ducati, at a bargain priceof £30. Useful as
spares, just to tuck away (new, they're something like £160 a side).
And the seller is just down the road from me, so no need to post. Just
as well, as he's demanding an eye-watering £50 to post (or about four
    times the actual cost).

He's just told me the price is £80 whether I collect or not. What to
do? Neg instantly and move on? Report him to Ebay?

Aye I've had some of these. Seller admitted it was how he made his
margin. It wes still an ok price so I had them. I made him post them,
    across York, mind!

Oh yeah, but this is utterly blatant. I've posted exhausts before, and
I know what they cost. Parcel2Go would only charge a tenner. Adding a
bit on for time and hassle etc is fine, but a multiplier of five is
    tajing the piss.

And then telling your buyer it's the same cost if you collect in
    person......

And his phone number on his Ebay details is out of date - rented hose
and the occupant isn't him and has been there for a year.

Tell him you'll both neg & report him unless you get them for 30 quid.
If he says no, then do it. If he agrees, collect the pipes, pay the
    money, then neg him anyway.

    1 - Report to Ebay
2 - Pay through Paypal including delivery. You can bet your arse he will
deliver in person to save him courier costs.
3 - File goods not received claim through Paypal and when you get your
refund because he can't prove delivery send him the money back at price the
    auction closed at.
4 - Neg the **** for good measure.

Whatever happens you can only harm him. Even if he UPIs you just use the
email he sent to you as proof and get any strike removed.

There's one of the reasons why I detest ebay, and shan't have anything
to do with it. I ordered a set of headphones about a year ago, sent the
cheque, cheque was cashed. No headphones. I waited. And waited.
Eventually, a (at first) rather polite mail was sent. Seller swore on a
stack of Bibles that he'd sent them. A week went by. And another week.
Eventually, I got quite stroppy. He immediately made a negative
appraisal, of whatever you call it. 'negged' me, if you like.

I contacted ebay. 'Look, I paid this ****, and I've yet to see the
goodies'. Ebay's response: a shrug of the shoulders and a 'not our
    problem, guv''.

So the thieving bastards let their sellers post propos which are quite
likely actionable and most certainly libellous, and all I can do is grin
    and bear it ?

A pox on ebay. The cunts'll go under, that much is sure.

But he's not offered collection as an option you dumb ****. And you're
getting a pair for £80 - which is still a bargain given that it's "something
like £160 a side". But you knew that and tried it on.

Next time around will you promise to ask before you use those grubby hands
    and hit buy it now?

Welcome to my BBL, shit fer brains.

He probably sells bike parts using another ID. A bottom feeder, to be
    precise.

  11. He's taking the piss, but IIWM I'd take the hit (or negotiate downwards
a bit) and move on - still a bargain, is it not? Unless you know you can
get the same for less than £80.

Otoh - a bargain is only a bargain if it's something you were going to
buy anyway - and, more importantly, had no choice, ie, not a casual
    purchase.

  12. Will be a bit of poetic justice too as it looks like he is partial to
    dishing out the negs himself.

They're sold anyway, but another time, if he's upfront and it's a
bargain, I suggest you compare the value of your nose with the rest of
    your face.

They've sold to the OP, I think. I normally agree with said OP, but on this
occasion I think he's out of order. The delivery charge, whilst high (!), is
clearly stated and there's no pick up option. The question should have been
asked prior to doing the BIN.

  15. Precisely. He said I was welcome to collect, but it would still be £80.
    That's out of order.

  16. I bought a new can on Ebay for £45 and a pair of used ones for £55, so
£80 a pair is taking the piss.

Secondly, his user details were incomplete (town, county, nothing else)
and the phone number supplied through Ebay resolves to a woman who says
she's lived at the address for a year and never heard of him.

And saying by email: "Yes, you're welcome to collect, but I'll still
charge you p&p" is bang out of order.

  17. He told me, and I quote:

"You are welcome to collect but the price will be the same £80"

That's right out of order, IMHO. Also, as stated, his Ebay details are
incomplete, with a phone number that belongs to someone else.

I had to go via the work email addie, look up the company it came from
(his company, looks like), ring that, get an answering machine directing
me to a mobile, ring that, get his answering machine again. I gave him
my numbers but he refused to contact me: email only.

Check ebay rules, but I'm sure that there is something in there IIRC that
clearly states high postage charges was not acceptable.
Ebay will be happy to check it, as they don't make commission on postage, so
a low selling price & high postage (sellers profit margin) = low commission
    for ebay!
They don't like that one bit ;)
