An eighth of mine is English, a sixteenth Irish, a sixteenth Scottish[1]
    and the rest Maltese.

[1] Grandad was 1/2 English, 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Scottish brought up in
    Carlisle and Liverpool.

Heh. You know the most annoying thing about travelling around the ME,
is the fact that I tend to end up with a collection of notes, that I
don't use for ages. Lots of money, but not enough in each currency to
get it changed back into euros ('cos of the commission). The last time
I worked it out, it came to about £200.

Most of the time, I don't mind, but Saudi is not one place I'm going to
    in the near future.

I know what you mean. When I did a lot of Europe, with Lucent, I
commonly had seven or eight currencies in my wallet. When the Euro
came in, I changed them all into the fine and noble Pound Sterling. A
    hundred and fifty of them.

At the moment, I've got a load of Qatar Riyals, almost no Kuwaiti
Dinars (an underling is running out to collect our lunch), too many
Dubai Riyals, some USD, a few Euros and some noble Pounds Sterling.
Terrible trouble getting work visas for there at the mo.

    This can't go on.

    Otherwise Des would have:
"More French than Charles De Gaulle" in his.

Mebbe, but on many cheapo airlines they will be fuelled up for outward
and return legs (or vice versa), due to national price differences.
The extra weight/cost is much less significant for short-haul
operations and may well be more than offset by greater predictability
    from selling more seats earlier.

I've heard that Bahrain is going the same way as Saudi too. I'll just
have to remember to wear a towel on my head, when I go there. :)

  14. The food and drink isn't free - in fact nothing in included on the
tickets except taxes and the chance of sitting in a plane with hordes
    of pikeys..

  15. Yes they do - an important part of the airline computer system in
Weight & Balance calculations[1]. They do try to make sure that the
plane is loaded as evenly as possible so that they don't keep having to
    correct as that wastes fuel.
Which is why most of the budget airlines are owned by big airlines with
    deep pockets..
