    Definitely agree with RD350LC (still got my old "spare" engine waiting
    for a chassis(stolen, bastards) in shed) FZ750 (had one and *loved* it -
    creams the GSXR of the day easy) or FZR600 (also had one & loved it)

    350LC takes the cake for tuneability and maintainability. Rebuilt it on
    the kitchen table easily. Minor porting sees great advances in power output.

    Depends on your definition but a two stroke 250 sports - ie late 80's early 90's
    KR1(S), RGV, TZR. Hard work to ride but you'd be hard pressed to find anything
    near as quick for the money through a windy road - top speed around the 200 ish
    mark so not slow. And big bore sports for 3K are either going to be old or in
    poor nick
