And the daft thing is Ebay don't even let you explain why you think
the item might be fraudulent.
They badly need a "report this item" button shown on each listing but
that would look too much like they are acknowledging they have a
problem

without a trace and wouldn't be able to action hardly any.

....at least that would be the case, if you're running with insufficient
staff.

Be a shame if they actually had to do some work to earn their money,
wouldn't it...

there's a chance the reports will be well founded and manageable in
number.

A lot of the suspect items that deserve to be pulled can be spotted in
seconds.

Heaven forbid Ebay might have to employ and train some staff.

Harsh economic reality. They are, as we've often said over on upce,
victims of their own success and the sheer volume of trade that passes
through their wide open doors means they have to filter their workload
somehow.

It may only take a few seconds to look at a listing, but following the
correct suspension procedures, dealing with the queries generated from
the seller and any affected buyers, etc. all adds up and if you scale
that by millions of items every month it's vast. There's so much more
money to be made by only resourcing the resolution of the fraud reports
which get generated by those willing to put in some legwork.
