The catch is that a non-existant bike is being "sold" using a hacked ebay
account. If you look at the previous transactions on the "sellers" account
you will see that up to now the account has been used for selling women's
and children's clothing. Suddenly she is selling a suspiciously cheap bike
with a discount for "buy it now" - I don't think so.

You're buying a £200 discount and free shipping, but no bike?

  9. Ah right - I didn't have time to look earlier; the joys of ferrying a 15
    year old daughter around!

How do they hijack an account? I assume they need a password, how do
    they get that?

Guess it, phish, or dictionary attack - which is why you should always
have a few numbers or funny symbols in your passwords.

  13. How about a ukrm tsunami-athon of penetrating questions? I don't have an
eBay account and can't join in, but "why are you using American spelling",
"why so cheap", "why 4 bikes at identical prices", "what's the VAT
position", "what's the weather like today in Crowthorne", "can you recommend
a pub there", "do you know my old granny", "can I come and view the ZX-10,
please", "is Craig Russell [1] the bloke who used to drink at the Three
Bells in Wombat Street", "does he still play darts", "what's with the free
shipping malarkey" and so on might generate some small comic effect.

[1] whose name appears, prolly by an oversight, on the Hayabusa page

And that account has mostly bought and sold cheap second hand clothes
    for the last year.

And the daft thing is Ebay don't even let you explain why you think the item
    might be fraudulent.
They badly need a "report this item" button shown on each listing but that
would look too much like they are acknowledging they have a problem

This is the "wrongest" I've seen recently.
It's very obviously a nicked VRS with the plates off an old SDI , and he has
had the same vehicle kicked off ebay twice under different IDs but it's back
    for a third time.
    Yep.

I've done quite nicely selling stuff on ebay but there are things I wouldn't
buy from there no matter how much I wanted them.
    Way too risky

Hmm. In case no one else has done it, I've filled in the "Report
someone elses user ID as stolen" page and submitted it.

And would generate such volumes of reports that they would drown
without a trace and wouldn't be able to action hardly any. At least if
it takes some degree of nous to submit a report on a listing, there's a
chance the reports will be well founded and manageable in number.
