Well that may be the argument, but who owns the copyright? I would have
assumed that the record company and the artist, so as long as neither
    the
record company nor artist are out of pocket[1] then there shouldn't be a
    problem.

On a CD, is the copyright message for example (c)EMI records or is it
    (c)EMI Records (Europe)?

FUCTIFINO, but when I originally heard the story (before Christmas),
the BPI weren't mentioned at all

Actually, I would really like to know what the argument there is.
Wonder if ukrm can provide a clue?

Hmm, I'd say that is a license infringement and not a copyright issue.

  5. The publishing rights are sold to individual countries so one company
collects the royalties from the UK while a completely different company
may collect them from the US, or the European Continent etc.

And each territory also has different 'points' (percentages) of what the
    artist receives from each sale

"The BPI is also investigating online retailer Amazon to see whether
it is importing CDs from outside Europe.

"If we find a net retailer is importing music from outside Europe,
then they are infringing copyright law," a spokesman said."

So does that mean that all those people seeling grey import bikes are
    infringing copyright as well?

    Ah, Merci, monsieur Dave.

It did appear to be a little, err... silly.

Thanks for that, it makes a bit more sense now and now I believe the BPI
as right to go for the money: Whatever you may think of the profiteering
    bastards :)

Don't see why you couldn't copyright the design of an individual bike.
Probably have to copyright the design of the individual parts though,
but maybe the look of the whole.

  12. I believe it's common for car manufacturers to use copyright law as applied
to the blueprints. SWK will be along shortly.

It was cross-border import (from Netherlands, IIRC) and flogging here which
got the grinning cardigan into severely hot water 30 years ago. In his
case, Virgin was dodging the VAT, and he ever-so-nearly went to chokey.
