Cheap annual travel insurance...

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Ginge, Jun 29, 2005.

  1. LLoyd Jardine did me for £45 worldwide just a year ago, after
two years on a Guardian offer at £60. This year the renewal is £85...
I should get back from my next trip about 6 or 7 hours before the current
    coverage ends.

    Get a personal one then.
Oh. Cunts. Still, I haven't used my platinum barclaycard for ages.
    Wonder where it is.

I use BUPA. Unlimited travel, plus something like 21 days' skiing, all
the usual medical, personal effects and injury cover, costs about £90
a year for a family of four. It actually went *down* a few quid this
    year. Amazing.

IIRC, that does exclude the US. Add the US in and it's a bit more,
because of their medical costs, but you can always add it later if you
    want.

When you consider that I've just been quoted £112 insurance just for a
two-week summer break (added by default to the on-line booking I was
considering), it's a bargain - but then any "travel agent" insurance is
    a total rip-off anyway.

Really? I couldn't find motorcycling in the insured activities listed
    here http://www.directline.com/travel/annual_policy2.pdf , and when I
rang to check they confirmed that I wouldn't be covered for motorcycle
touring. So I gave them a miss.

  9. Ee, I'm losing my touch. Constructive posts now? FFS, I need to have a
    word with myself.

  10. well I specifically asked and they checked the details and told me it
wasn't not covered. Ive checked the policy document myself and nothing
was there. I'll check it again after Ive unpacked it from one of the
many boxes cluttering our new home.

Ah. Your person seems to be saying "if it's not excluded it's
included", mine "if it's not included it's excluded". I was inclined
to believe mine because the policy has a section headed "Insured
    Activities".

With luck your person will be right, and I'll try them for a quote
    next year.
