Well it wasn't me AFAIAA, but I've used www.InsureAndGo.com for
the last two years. As I haven't made a claim yet, I can't say
whether they're any good or not, but they're pretty cheap.

Got an Egg card? £15 for annual European family cover including 17 days
winter sports - worldwide cover for an extra £35.

    what he said.

I've got 250K's travel accident insurance free with my credit card, but
it doesn't provide theft cover, so I'll probably use InsureAndGo again
    this year.

InsureAndGo that I use (and mention up there ^) have
several different levels. A worldwide multi-trip policy for
me (40 y/o in case that makes a difference) is:
    Bronze cover: £42.08
    Silver: £55.00
    Gold: £65.00
    Platinum: £72.22

  11. I've used Direct Travel ( www.direct-travel.co.uk ) for the last couple
of years, after binning my Platinum Amex Card after their insurance
    cover proved to be arse!

No connection to these guys at all, just a satisfied customer, esp.
after having to make a claim that was sorted out within 2 weeks, with
    no aggro.

They're slow-but-sure for lost / stolen stuff claims IME, and they shipped
my mate's girlfriend home without too much hassle, when she broke her leg.
No trying to wriggle out of anything (even when I didn't have receipts for
my second-hand kit), but expect a ten-minute hold time if you try and call
    their claims department.

Aye - having priced up the cost of AA cover, travel insurance and mobile
insurance separately, the 15 quid / month Lloyds ask for their Platinum
    account is a bargain.

  16. Laptop case stolen at JFK. New laptop inside, state of the art then (
    2-3 years ago ).

Got NYPD police report ref, reported it stolen when I got back to UK.
Claim forms sent out, and returned with receipt of new laptop etc and
    NYPD refs.

After repeated jildying, the insurers ( NU, if I remember right were
the underwriters, BICBW) eventually said they weren't fully happy with
the description given, as the details on the NYPD report were
*slightly* different to the receipt I'd submitted. This info took 7
weeks after I'd submitted the complated claim form to eventually get
    out of them.

I explained that I'd given the NYPD fella the main specs, as I was in
line to get my flight back to the UK when it was nicked. The receipt
validated this and expanded on the full specs. They weren't happy, and
asked me to "re-consider" my claim, to make sure the laptop I'd
submitted the receipt for was actually the one that was taken.

Hmm. Sounded like they were accusing me of trying to defraud them. I
told them that, and then said that if they were they'd be sued so
fucking fast it'd make their heads spin.

That seemed to shut them up and they paid the claim, minus a fair bit
for accessories as although they admitted they'd been bought at the
same time as the laptop, they could have been used with any other
laptop so weren't obviously part of the same "package". After another "
**** off, twats" they agreed to this and stumped up, some 13 weeks
after the claim. I'd originally just wanted the laptop replaced, much
    faster.

So, claim took ages, they fought every element, and accused me of
attempted fraud. Hardly worth paying the 245 a year or whatever the
    Platinum Card was.
