    berthing. Quite impressed, I was.

    I hate the way that during the safety drill they announce "in the
    event that we have to land on water"... No! Look you feckin' retarded
    feckstick, ooooh! where's my cluebyfour? The clues are to be found in
    the words "land" and "water", and in my book that's called "ditching"
    :)

  15. I was in the Chaucer Hospital on the out skirts of Canterbury getting my
    MZ-ed ankle fixed when it happened. The Captain was put in the next
    room. There were two armed police outside his door and two outside the
    window. As there were also armed police at the entrance to the hospital
    I then assumed it was to keep people out rather than to keep him in.

  20. No flying surface controls *at all*. Nothing. Failure of *all three*
    hydraulic systems (main and both back-ups) when the tail-mounted engine
    suffered a rotor burst and the fragments chopped through all the
    hydraulic lines.

    By amazing good fortune the pilot had actually practiced on a simulator
    with total hydrulic failure, despite being told such a thing was, to all
    intents and purposes, impossible, and they had another qualified pilot
    dead-heading on board as well.

    It didn't belly-land, as they had the undercarriage down but it touched
    down at about 250 knots and went tits-up. A lot of people killed but
    even more survivied.

    An utterly incredible feat of airmanship IMHO.
