Right. I was wondering about that because they said it was anything up
to 300 feet down and I thought the med was quite shallow at the edges.

The spin the beeb are putting on it seems to be along the lines of
"There is absolutely no reason to suspect anything other than the thing
just fell out of the sky because it broke." Course that might change
when they get some actual evidence or not, as the case may be.
    Personally I think not.

About as much sense as all the other senseless acts of violence that are
perpetrated in the name of religion.

You know why they want you to put your head between your legs in a crash
    don't you?

.....to keep your head close to your body for ID.

    operation and the investigation."

Oh well, we didn't want to know the truth anyway...

But the throwback would've wet himself with glee and that doesn't seem
to have happened yet so I am not so sure.

Cool. If I just loosen my fly a bit I can relive being 15 then, albeit
    briefly

  13. From reading a crash report years ago about a DC10 where the rear floor
collapsed when it blew a cargo door.

    Cabin sound:
    WOOMBAA
Thought to be pilot: WHAT THE **** WAS THAT.
Thought to be stewardess: Sir the back end of the cabin has disappeared.
Thought to be first officer: NO SHIT!

They may get clues like that :)

There are some hilarious transcripts on the plane crash websites
    (planecrashinfo.com and another I can't remember). There's also some
    tragic ones, and poignant ones.

There are .mp3 files of voice recorders. My untrained ear can't tell
what the people are saying, but the transcripts help.

There's one where a Japanese (?) plane flew straight into a mountain in
thick fog. They thought they were at greater altitude than they were.
There's normal chat, one rushed "oh shit" equiv. and a bang.

  17. Was that the Paris DC10? Istr the rear cargo door latches were not a
positive locking design and it was possible (as happened) for a door to
be closed and not completely locked, yet show ok in the cabin telltales.

Iirc, Lockheed were in the process of doing something about it, but the
plane leaving Orly (afair) beat them to it. When the cabin door blew
out, the floor collapsed and ruptured several control/hydraulic circuits
rendering the whole tail assembly useless.

A mate of mine was involved on the periphery of the cleanup and
    investigation - some horrible stories.
