Charity ride out.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by steve auvache, May 23, 2004.

  1. I am told that there is a charity rideout every year from London to
Southend. I have never heard of it but I assume it is either the Hardly
    or the Goldwing crowd

Does anybody know who organises it and how I can get in touch?

We did the Southend Shakedown run on Easter Monday which was from the
Ace Cafe to Southend. They said it was in aid of charity but they didn't
really push the collection at all - in fact I asked a marshall about who
to see to offer dosh and he had no idea.

The Ace cafe website doesn't show who benefits either

The run in August to Harwich I understand is in aid of the Essex Air
    Ambulance

    I dunno.

I was filming at a horsey rescue charity place[1] today and one of the
trustees, an extremely attractive single 40 something WPC, asked me if I
happened to know who organised it. I said I would ask the font of all
knowledge. What else could I do?

The EHPPS is by any standards a large undertaking and costs an absolute
fortune to run and they have discovered that getting more public down
there and involved pays dividends in terms of their overall income.

The logic behind her thinking with the bikers is; as part of their open
to the public fund raising bit they need to get specifically the kids,
not necessarily horsey types, interested in visiting on a sunny Sunday
afternoon. To this end they are willing to provide tea and biccies for
somebody like a bunch of charity riders in order to attract the younger
bodies and their chequebook bearing parents through the gate.

That could be the very badger.

Do you know who actually runs it? The web site has been no real help I
    am afraid to say.

You sure? I mean, you may be thinking of Ford's computer centre in
Eagle Way Brentwood. That is not very far from Dunton.

I rememeber seeing a poster at the training school I was with saying:
    "Fords of Dunton"
    "Essex Air Ambulance"
    "Charity" &
    "August 2003"

Dind't take anymore notice of it because it was about a month before I
passed my DAS, so was something I could attend.
