Changing the bike...

I'm looking at part-exing the GSX for something else.

I've thought about a number of bikes (quite varied). I'm looking at
something new (unless someone can tell me what I may gain with buying
something s/h (apart from price)). The budget is around the £7,000 mark.

I do like my bikes to be big and chunky, but I'm also considering
something more sporty [1]. I'd also like something that's
    "throwaroundable."

Any ideas from the floor? I'd like your opinions, as I know I want to
change the bike, but for what model, I really don't know.

[1] 106BHP is the limit in France, but I wouldn't be adverse to
de-restricting a more powerful bike in the future.

That's not the first time I've been recommended that. Why, in your
    opinion?

I like the look of that, but why? Also, I've never ridden a twin
before, so what should I look out for?

Tell me then? I've got an idea, but for me it's radical! :)

    It looks boss.
I have - good fun. I can't make up my mind about chopping the 'blade in
for another supermoto, or for a v-twin roadster. If the latter, I will
seriously be looking for a test ride on the Superduke, though I'm also
tempted to make a "heart over mind" decision for once, and buy a Ducati
    Monster S4R.

Dunno really - just tranposing one of my choices onto you, I guess.

I've been toying with someting a bit different to a Jap Four
for a while, and the bigger Triumphs always seem to get good
    reviews, predominantly. because the engine.

Personally, my No.1 choice at the moment is the new Sprint ST
but since you have the GSX-14 and from your OP you like 'big
and chunky' I thought the Speed Triple might be more your cup
    of tea.

I could see you on a BT1100 - pretty popular in France, too...

Have both - get the 900cc KTM supermoto. Then let me have a go

I was very seriously tempted by the S4R - but I'd imagine it would be
    pretty crap at touring.

you can tour on anything, really. I've mentioned it loads of times, but
I did a 3000 mile/3 week tour of France and Italy (from N.I.) on an
SZR660 - much worse for vibes and discomfort than a monster.

The S4R'd be fine for bimbly/backroads touring. If I wanted to get to
the other side of Europe quickly, I could always use the 7R.

A Silverwing? You'd have the advantage of not looking any more of a retard.
