Well I can make the back wheel of the Capo spin in the wet, but that's
not sliding it round corners, it's more like bad throttle control
whilst upright in a straight line. I really am amazed at your bravery.
Doing all this stuff on a brand new bike, on an unfamiliar bike, on
brand new tyres, in the wet, before the engine is run-in. You must be
one of the top riders on the group and your modesty isn't really hiding
    it very well.

Well keep up the good work and let's look forward to me videoing you in
the summer maybe. Although I'll probably still have the Capo so I doubt
that I'll keep up with you anyway.

How much was the insurance btw and where from?

I haven't got the confidence yet to wheelie up through the gears, it comes
up in second more controllably and when I knock it up into 3rd the front
wheel comes down. I think I should be calling on the Dr Molly Gower school
    of wheelies )

The rear wheel slid out round a damp corner when Paul and had been out for a
while. I was quite happy with the slide, the tyres are more than capable of
gripping in the wet and having played around with a trials bike, its of no
major concern when a road bike slides, grips and carries on. I seem to
remember having more problems when Champ stalled in front of me some years
ago and I hit gravel on the YZF750.

I'm still running the new one in now so I can't think I'll be powersliding
it around for some time.....I don't think I'll ever be that good. But I'll
play, like anyone does. The major thinng when any kind of slide happens, is
just not to panic, let the bike sort itself out and carry on. Thst just
what I did - and yep that comes from IAM training and riding with the guys
that set up Harrogate Advanced. They're the best bikers I've ever ridden
with and that includes every biker I've met here too (sorry Molly ;o))

Ahh, righto - no, they locked up when I tested the brakes a few miles down
the road. Tested the brakes to see how good they were, the rear wheel
locked up and gave a little wiggle. I was very impressed at how good they
were, even in comparison to the '99 R1, which I did think were good. The
brakes on the one I picked up on Friday took a little bedding in and I must
    admit are just fantastic )

Of course ;o) It had to be grey & black. Just looks so aggressive and

Tbh it only felt like 1cm, but Paul was behind me and had kittens, he was
the one that said it was around 6" - I hafta admit, it didn't feel like it -
it felt quite stable and didn't concern me at the time.

The IAM doesn't come into it, Paul was riding behind me and although it
didn't feel like that, he does assure me it was more than a coupla inches.

But could this be the mythical inch that you guys are always telling us
    girls about.....

Warning : will get a bit long now:

The IAM will teach someone how to deal with the unexpected should it happen.
On a personal basis, I would have panicked had this happened around 6 years
ago before I did my training. Having had the training, passed the test and
carried on riding with these guys, I can say that it didn't panic me, it
didn't phase me, a slide happened, the bike felt fine when it did and now
I'm quite happy to give it beans round a corner.

On a side note - I think the stick the IAM gets is prossibly derserving if
you don't find a decent group. But if you manage to find one like Harrogate
Advanced (HAB), then not only do you get fantastic training and a good
social side, but after the test, the training carries on. We train people
way past the IAM test standard with the idea that even if you have a bad
day, you can still pass the test. The rest of the training then starts,
with ride outs and rider skill days with some of the best motorcyclists I
've ever ridden with. Deej, Dom and Simon head up HAB and they're spot on
not just with the riding but the whole attitude that goes with it. If they
were training an associate that slid the back end of the bike - they'd ask
why it happened, reason why it happened and teach the associate how to
prevent it from happening in the future - but if it does (and it does on
occassions, as proven) then they help the associate deal with it.

I hope to be taking some time out of riding for a while at some point, and
the moment I get back on the bike, I'll be straight back to HAB for some
refresher training and possible retake my test - I value them that much.

I care about the bikers on this group, as I do all bikers, I want every one
to get to their destination and enjoy their time on the bike - I do. But
many of us need the extra confidence and training that the IAM, RoSPA, MAC
all provide. If you don't want further training, then fair enough, but for
those of us who continually want to improve - I say do, its well worth it.

   ) HAND

  20. I was wondering that. perhaps "taking some time out of biking" = "up the
