Champ and visiting

I've had a long discussion with Fi today, and she's quite keen that
    visiting is managed sensibly.

Two reasons for this; firstly, because he is in a pretty bad way, it
gives a chance for the family to have a reasonable amount of time with
him without having to deal with crowds, and secondly to allow the people
to spread the visits out over the next few weeks and months so as not to
have everyone there in one afternoon then no-one there for days. By the
sounds of things, he'll be in for a while.

For want of a better technical solution, I'm intending to put together a
Google calendar so people can book visiting slots, but - at Fi's request
    - don't intend for this to go live until at least the start of June.

As yet, his return to Cheltenham has not been confirmed, and we don't
know what ward he will be in. This information will be available in due
    course.

From a sharing perspective, as I don't want to make the calendar totally
public and read-writeable, it looks like I need the e-mail addresses of
those who want to visit, so could you please e-mail me (paying attention
to the sig as to avoid the spam trap) with the email title of "CHAMP"
and I'll see what I can do.

Don't expect an immediate response though as I'll be in Cumbria for a
    few days.

Well quite, I assumed the whole thing was a wind up. Google calendar and
    all.
Obviously it's essential we disrupt Hospital operations.

What day are Nigel and his morris dancers going? that might be worth
    seeing.

  8. But seriously folks...

Message from Gyp. Champ's mum has asked that he has no visitors until
    she says "go".

Apparently the poor little flower is all banged-up and knackered, and
the family is worried that he needs to get lots of rest at this early
    stage.

    So, hold your horses folks.

Proper face-to-face piss-taking will have to wait.

How about those of us miles away - do we have to be "sensible" in
terms of sending cards and GWS gifts?

In an unrealted note, does anybody know how much it would cost to get
my knackered ZX-6R engine couriered to Cheltenham?

    F said to me:

"It's good to be optimistic and all but to say he's improving at this
stage is perhaps a little keen... the guy's going to be pretty-much
bed-bound for the next 3 months and all 4 limbs are relatively
useless, while his head has a broken jaw.

I feel photos[1] of The Afflicted One would be disloyal... but if you
want a visual, the leg with his shattered femur is twice its usual
    size (ie
sizeable) and near black... The other leg has some sort of Mad Max
brace with protractors to limit the angle he can bend it, while one
arm is in plaster to the fingertips. I'm sure you can use your
    imag...

He's being air-ambulanced back to GLOS soon so, once he's settled in
the new ward, I'll let you know more detail.

But after a multiple trauma such as his, plus 5 hours of surgery,
above all he needs rest. Some really kind people turned up at the
Manx hospital and it simply shattered him (especially as he isn't
sleeping at night) so it's probably best to keep the lovely people at
arm's length until he's strong enough to cope.

Hope that doesn't sound unkind to anyone with good intentions of
visiting promptly but he's barely over the anaesthesia yet so slowly
    does it for now.
Perhaps you could let people know to take it easy for the next few
    days until he's more settled."

    [1] sorry Ben.

When I've been stuck in hospital, the worst bit is that it's so fucking
boring, lying there staring at the ceiling. Would he want
books/magazines/iPod etc brought to him, or is he still too drugged up?

Yes but try to be creative.

Reach For The Sky or My Left Foot on DVD would be apt as would
    anything by Stephen Hawking.

"A Brief History of Time" audiobook, read by the author.

Actually, I do have a copy of "Reach For The Sky" somewhere. And "The Last
Enemy" by Richard Hillary, which would **** his head up good and proper.

You certainly did. I'll be sure to let you know exactly which flight you
    should flash.

<aside to froup: I'd almost certainly crash, but what a way to go!>

You wouldn't be the first person to crash at the sight of me!

Well, you can always pop over if you're visiting Champ in the next x
    months you know.
