I never clean my chain apart from the odd wash when I'm washing my bike. I
do lube it very frequently and I use Castrol Chain wax. My old gixxer did
just over 20K miles on the same chain.

I've been told that I should clean it. Would I get more miles if I cleaned
    it?

Yes, I don't like chain wax though. It sticks too well and doesn't
penetrate the links properly, it picks up a lot of shit that stays on
the chain. I'd rather have a lube that flings around a bit, at least
then you'd know it was able to penetrate the link well enough to do the
    job.

I thought 20K was quite good for a chain? What lube do you suggest? Please.

I use a Scottoiler with Husqvarna chainsaw oil. When I lubed chains the
old fashioned way I used Motorex 622 Strong and before that normal
Castrol or PJ1 blue chainlube. All of them worked well.

I don't know many people who have much good to say about chain waxes.

    Oh, I dunno.

If you spray it on thick enough it hides the rust on the sideplates
    pretty well.

I used one on a GS550 I had for a couple of years and never replaced
whatever chain it had. Those Suzukis were heavy on the feeble chains
    they had.

Adjustment perids went from about every 500 miles too over a 1000.

I have a huge tin of Silkolene which seems to be everlasting as the
MZs don't need a lot - mainly down to the might of democratic
centralism and the chains are fully enclosed - the Guzzi has no call
for it and the Turbo doesn't get out much.

I still have a tin of Castrol chain grease - the stuff you boil up and
dunk the chain in then leave to set. Fantastically messy and
satisfying. My Mother never liked it though.

    They're great, especially Italian ones.

It's bloody good for spraying onto fasteners and alloy wheel rims for
winter. Looks shit after a week or two but does the job.

Nevertheless, 20K from a chain isn't that bad.
