Well, I have had a shaftie for a long time, so perhaps they've changed the
recipe. The stuff used to be gold coloured. After some of the solvent had
evaporated it had the consistency of the runny toffee in those Cadbury's
bars. After the solvent had evaporated completely the chain just look wet

No, really, for a time you could buy chain-lube marketed under the
"Yoshimoto" brand name that actually coloured your chain (and
    everything else) silver.

I'm pretty sure anyone whoever had the misfortune to use the stuff had
a "run-in" with it. It was fucking awful - it appeared to basically be
a 50:50 oil and silver paint mix.

There was a gold variant as well. I used it on my FZR400 because it
had a gold chain. Sad, eh?

I used to have a 'Tyreart' pen to highlight 'Pirelli Phantom' in gold on
    my tyres.

    Possibly..
I get our subbys to come round by telling them I will be starting at the
top tomorrow; just pop round and pick it all up when you're ready ;)
Mind you; from experience they know I mean it ...........

Actually, now you mention it, I do recall seeing someone use it.

Umm, weren't Yoshimoto the ones who gave their various products silly
    names?

oh yes, the names of the products are[1] brilliant, another example:
    their degreaser "Phoxitoph"

[1] I was going to say "were", but they appear to be still available.

I like Castrol chain wax, as it doesn't splatter all over the arse end
    of the bike.

Last time I bought chain lube it was Castrol chain wax and seemed to do
    a pretty good job.

I posted up here about it, and the consensus from other recent users
was that the formula had likely been changed.

Having recently discovered the european scottoiler oil reserve in my
shed (acquired from DWB when he buggered of to the Channel Islands), my
bike will be getting a generous wipe over with a scottoil soaked rag
for the forseeable future (unless I do end up with a Guzzi).

Heh. Actually, I can only recall a couple, and one was, IIRC, a tin of
lube of some sort called 'Slippi-Tin'.

Ew. That's the ends of the earth from where I'm sitting....
Its the threat that's supposed to work though.
Erected scaffolding is harder to steal than pile of it on the floor you
    see.
    Maybe a variant:
'Look I really need this scaffolding away so I've arranged for someone
to take it down and stack it tidily so can you come and get it when
    you're ready.'
    ;)
