Anyone know what I should be paying for one of these? M&P have one listed at
    50 odd quid!
Also do I need a different tool to refit the new chain (O ring type
    onTL1000R)

    Cheers

I find a hacksaw makes a good job of removing an old worn out chain.
That will be a 'softlink' version. It's possible to do a good job of
peening over the ends of the softlink, once fitted, using a couple of
    hammers, and a punch.

    Anglegrinder surely.
Like he says. The trick is you have to brace the back of the softlink with
something, like the head of a hammer, whilst you hit the other side with a
punch. A volunteer from the audience helps at this point.

Ignore everyone who will say use a ball peen hammer etc.

Ad don't waste money on a splitter/joiner. Just take the chain and
the bike to a dealer and have them do it. It's a lot less hassle,
fairly cheap (shouldn't even be an hours labour) and it can go back if
    it's done wrong.

Trust me on this, fitting chains is a pain IMO and best left to pros.

    No problem.

In the future, would you mind putting your text underneath the text
you're replying to (like I have), please. Makes things easier to
    read.

You can get a quite reasonable Angle Grinder for half that money and it
can be used for a whole host of other essential jobs around the house.

    Bollocks is it?

It's easy when you know how, and that can be learnt here simply by
    asking.

Talking of which...got anything surplus to requirements cluttering up
    your toolbox?

But for the sake of a few quid in a dealer? Not worth the hassle.

Not everyone can afford to pay dealers the 50 quid an hour for such
simple tasks. Top quality chain and sprockets cost about 130 quid for a
superbike, you're looking at roughly 30% of that on top just to get them
    fitted.

Tried doing it this way, took about half an hour, made my arms ache and
    I got blistered hands.

Angle grinder is the way to go. Tuppy does a very neat job with one -
just grinds the heads off the rivets and pushes the pins out.
This is the bit that I can't do - I've done a few with split-links, but
I suppose you can't really use them on a big-bore sportsbike.

It's at my place, with a view to handing it over at the last EOSM, which
    you didn't attend.

So I'll be taking it to the BOSM for the same, or if you mail me your
postal address I'll send it in the post. Or you can fetch it when next
    RBR'ing.. Or whatever.
