    Hello

I am wanting to adjust my chain on a 2006 GSF650. The manual says
remove cotter pin,and then loosen bolt before adjusting tension.

My axle does not have what I thought a cotter pin is, and I am bit
    stumped.

is there a chance it has something else that is stoppig me from
    lossening the axel bolt.

    Thanks in advance

The phrase "cotter pin" refers to the Split pin in the axle nut. I
suspect you, like me, identify a cotter pin as something that holds a
    pedal crank on a bicycle.

Odd though, my 1200 Bandit had nyloc type nuts.

I think a 3' breaker bar would probably help him more.

  5. Either there's a broken off bit of split pin [cotter pin] going through the
castellated nut and the axle, or you are lacking the strength necessary to
    move the nut.

I are a large chap, not at all lacking when it comes to wielding a socket
wrench, but undoing the rear axle nut on the Viagra nearly made me shit my
    liver out.

Thanks for the pointer about the nyloc type nuts Speedgazebo. Is that
basicaly a normal looking nut, with something against the thread.
looks like i could knock it out with a terminal driver or soemthing.
    Very hard to describe it.

Could you describe it, and tell me how you would remove it

Acording to my manual the cotter pin is fitted to Canadian models only,
you are just lacking oomph, get an extention bar for your socket, when
I first adjusted the chain on mine I spent ages checking for a left handed
    thread,
but no, it's just fucking tight.

    In communiqué
A nyloc nut has a ring of nylon visible between the nut and the thread
of the wheel spindle. If you have a hole in the side of the nut with
something in it, then Mungo may have the right of it. Though you would
normally expect to see at least the head of the split pin remaining.

A wheel spindle and nut that have been taken roughly with a split pin
while not lined up correctly, then left to corrode nicely can be
    challenging to separate.
