cg125 woes

  1. Hi everyone

A little advice on cg125 problems I've been having for the last couple
    of weeks.

    Symptons:
-lots of kicking required to start
-trying to open throttle when first started (by even the smallest
    amount) causes it die
-will not start with choke (at all)
-will not usually start with throttle open
-once warm (i.e. been running on tick-over for a while), will rev and is
rideable, however in wet weather it will unexpectedly cut out (e.g.
while nipping along at 50mph the engine will just die - engine seems
quite warm but it will restart)
-I'm not sure if this is related, but once when it cut out, it backfired
(with quite a bang). I thought it had blown a seal or gasket somewhere
    but it seemed okay.

It's got a good spark, so I don't think it is an electrical fault unless
the timing's out or something. Has got plenty of oil etc.

    thanks, Pete

Check the plug lead then check the points, hell replace them, they are
cheap enough. Then check the timing.

clean the carb it could be a stuck float or blocked jets, if its a
slide carb make sure it's smooth. also change the condenser, 75p from
a car shop and always worth changing.

As said new points plug, cap and lead won't cost a lot.

make sure also the fuel tap is not blocked and the vent in the tank is
open/clear. A vacuum in the tank will kill the engine and then let it
    start moments after.

This sounds like the sort of thing that happens when the petrol goes off
after sitting too long, or there is water in the petrol.
Mine only back fires when it wants switching onto reserve. Maybe you've
got water in the carb? Tried some fuel dry treatment, and draining the
float bowl out? Have you had a look at the fuel filter?
Clean the plug cap up, and make sure that the little rubber seal is
    clean and not cracked too.
