CCM non-starting woes, part the second

So, I got the thing going during the Christmas break - recharging the
battery, then turning the engine over with the fuel taps off to try and suck
out any excess petrol, then fuel back on and some gentle persuasion and it
    kicked into life.

Rode it round for a nice afternoon, then hosed it down to get rid of the
    salt and put it away.

Two weeks later: key in the ignition, hit the starter button - cue loud buzz
from the starter relay and no sign of life from the starter motor. I've
unscrewed the starter relay from the frame, and it doesn't appear to have
any loose connections. I even tried shorting out the connection between the
two thick cables to the starter motor itself (i.e. the connection that the
relay is trying to make) - I can see some sparks when I make the connection,
but not a peep from the starter motor. Something does make a "click" sound
under the rear seat when I do this, though.

    My current thoughts are:

    - Starter motor is completely knackered

    - Battery is knackered - sufficiently charged to light the sidelights and
dashboard, but not to turn the motor. Still, I'd have thought I'd have
heard some sort of signs of life from the motor

    Any ideas?

A jump start would elimate the battery as a problem. Have you tested the
battery voltage? Multimeters are now dirt cheap.

It's fair to say that the battery has had a fairly traumatic life so far,
what with one electrical gremlin and another (and a couple of
    leaving-the-lights-on cockups)

IMLE this is most likely. The current drain makes the voltage drop, which in
turn makes the relay open, which then reduces the current drain, voltage
goes up, starter relay closes, and so on.

Certainly this was the problem with the old Aprilia - the relay was always
buzzing on that bike if you left it un-used for more than a fortnight.

Surprised the battery has drained though - I did give it a fairly long run
when I got it going last time, but maybe the jetwashing had partly shorted
    something out

Could be, or it could just be not holding charge. Does it have an alarm?
The Triple used to (I now see) have a pretty shit battery. The alarm
wouldn't disarm if I left it for a week. Replacing the battery has sorted
that, as well as the speedo issue.

    This one, deffo.

It must be a single thing as the SZR did the same thing on it's old
    battery.

Jumpleads off your car would prove it.

It was the battery all along - started first touch yesterday after 24h on
    the Oximiser.

The battery is leaking current to earth, with everything switched off, at
the rate of 0.4mA, which I assume is nothing significant, and probably just
the current drain required to keep the digital clock running.

Aye. Sounds a little low if anything.
