Greetings. After a period of abstinence I find myself once more in
    possession of a motorcycle, a cbr600rr this time. I think it's great,
but I have a slight niggling problem with the gear shift - it's not
all that slick and requires a very definite press to upshift cleanly,
though down is less of a problem.

Any ideas what this might be, and easy things to check to rectify it?

    Cheers

    Is the oil manky ?

First off, change the oil and filter for a decent semi-synth (or what
is recommended for your bike), and see if that improves things any.

  3. Check the chain is correctly adjusted and well lubed.

Strange that it's harder to change up than down. Sounds like a fucked
gearbox to me - I'll give you 30 quid for it.

Solid grease or crap in the linkage?
Its probably the same up or down , you just notice it more on the
    upshift...

No ideas on that one I'm afraid. If, on the other hand, you go to
change down from 6th and meet no resistance at all, it's worth looking
down to check whether you still have a gear shifter on the bike.

Interesting journey home through the rush hour traffic tonight, that
    was.

    David.
