I am looking to buy a CBR1100XX in the near future and am looking for advice
regarding this bike, both good and bad.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Be prepared to buy rear tyres frequently... :)

I've had mine since new for about a year now and we've put 15,000 km on it -
mostly 2-up with gear belting around country roads, many quite rough
(Gresford - Gloucester etc.) Reports from the wife are that the machine is
very comfortable (she often falls asleep - once on a spin over Buladelah
mountain) and we've often done 800km+ in a day in all types of conditions -
snowstorms, torrential rain, mud with no hint of trouble.

These babies run quite hot, esp. in very heavy traffic. Once mine hit
115deg and I thought my legs were going to fry but she was fine. Can get
around 350 kms from a tank if taking it easy - 21 litres.

Surprisingly easy to ride in peak-hour, can be thrown around (I'm only about
75kg) and if you want to give it a decent poke (have hit 240 2-up...
um-aaaaa) it's all there - like the "hand of God pushing you towards the
horizon". Tossers (IMHO) will complain about the linked brakes but they're
so good you'll probably only have an issue if you're considering racing the
beast. Be a bit careful on dirt.

I did have front-end wobbles but they were a result of having a front tyre
    that was due for replacement.

So... Good: amazingly smooth, well-built, capable, Jeckyl/Hyde
transformation possible with throttle, cheap to service, v. comfortable for
2-up, massive luggage capacity with Givi gear.
Not so good: eats tyres if you decide to be naughty on a regular basis, can
run a bit hot, doesn't have the sound of a Ducati... :)

    HTH. Cheers,

  6. read back in this newsgroup, there's been at least 3 threads answering
your question in the last few weeks. groups.google.com if you can't
see back far enough in your newsreader.

    <snip of Dave's comments>

A quick word, about the same bike..... :)

It is _very_ nice. It is, however, _very_ easy to get into the "go
directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200" speeds, even if
    you didn't actually intend to.

In standard form, without noisy mufflers, they are so quiet, smooth,
well-faired and just capable, that you get very little feed-back of how
much fun you are actually having. ;-)

If I owned one, I might as well go direct to the nearest cop shop and
    hand in my licence. :-|

    regards,
CrazyCam (and it doesn't sound like one of those Ducati's that are
about to fall apart any tick of the clock!)

Maybe he just sold a bike through the newsgroup, eh?

(I'd let a dealer rob me on a trade in before letting any of you weirdos
kick me in the nuts! But I don't plan on ever selling any bikes anyway,
    so its not a problem...)

Who said I was going to say anything about Kwakas? You were asking for advice
on CBR1100XXs. The only advice I can give is do yourself a favour and go buy
    one.

Yeah, I have, and despite the fact that it looks pretty ratty having
only been cleaned once since then (water restrictions, you know) and
that I have in fact been commuting on it, that doesn't make it a "rat
commuter"... Its a "wonderful piece of elegant italian design wrapped
around esoteric italian mechanicals" I'll have you know!

But it's not *really* european esoterica unless it's overweight,
    underbraked, and underpowered.

And it's not dirty either. Not properly dirty, even the dead bugs have
    fallen off.
