CBR1000F Questions

  1. Can anyone tell me where I can get a stiffer rear spring for the big girl?
I've tried a few places here in Perth and so far they are all telling me
that the Honda's use some kind og stiffer spring than other brands and that
I can't get a stiffer one other than custom.

Anyone know of a brand that stocks stiffer than normal?

Also Are the gearboxes on these so clunky? I dunno if I've just been spolit
by riding the Gixxer but this thing just doesn't seem to be anywhere near
as smooth as other bikes I've ridden.

Finally what do most people get before hitting reserve? The best I've
gotten so far is 192km :(

    Thanks in Advance

Yep, they definitely seem to be afflicted with Elderly Honda Gearbox
Syndrome. Changing the oil more regularly (like every 4000km or so)
    will help.
Which model is it? I have an '87, and it is capable of 270km or so
before reserve. (When it's running, of course).

I get around 270kms before reserve as well. 98 model.
If I sat on the speed limits I would most likely get over 300.

Even so... does it get noticeably better with fresh oil?
I've found that I get about 15km/l at 110kph on the open road. It's
been as bad as low as 9km/l the one time I spent a weekend riding it
around inner-city Melbourne. That and the very heavy clutch[1]
convinced me not to use it as a commuter bike.

Had an 1989 model for 3 years, did 30,000kms. The gearbox get worse over
that time. Using Motul full-synth help a bit, seemed to smooth it out a
little but it still needed a good positive flick.

Best to reserve was 268km, average around 220kms.

I generally get a loss of power and rough, stuttering running.

The canberran models tend to have incorrectly torqued cam sprocket
    bolts ...

  10. I have the 92 model and I get 270Km or so from country runs at a little
over the speed limit with the occasional fang to overtake, and around
240Km in city riding before reserve, if I rode like I drive a car I
would probably get over 300 before reserve. When I rode over for the GP
last year I also rode part of the GOR with my future sister in law who
was on L plates and a Virago 250, I must have ridden the slowest ever,
but I did get fantastic fuel economy :)

of something ... beers at the Napier or something ...

Bit of both - it's the "DVA Sports Carnival". You'll be happy to know
that we don't attend at the taxpayer's expense though.

I'm on the ACT Tenpin Bowling Team. When I'm competing in a sport, I
subscribe to the theory of "If you can't win, be funny". Therefore I
intend to be very, very funny indeed!

I'll be staying at the Rydges in Exhibition St. I have no idea as yet
    where that is.

There's a mob in Frankston, Vic that repairs and reconditions shocks and
they do these bikes as well. About $300. Someone here may know of the
    place.

Mine's not clunky. Occasional false neutral around 3-4th, but only if
    I'm lazy changing.

I get that regularly when I commute. On a trip, if I take it easy,
around 230 km. Best I've seen is about 250 km. Once I thought that I got
295 km before reserve. It was only when I pulled into the servo to fill
up that I found that it already WAS on reserve.....

Yes, it's about a 2km walk from one hotel to the other. Since it's becoming a
bit of a tradition I guess I should come along for a beer and a feed... but
we'll have to give BTH a map this time :)

Who could resist a good-looking bloke like Hammo?[1]

Sadly I've already got a threesome scheduled for my hotel room, so
there's no room at the inn!
