Anyone know anything about tyres for a CB500, need to get one tomorrow.

Presently have a MT75 110/80/17 on the front (new) and was gonna put a MT75
130/80/17 on the rear as the Honda books says

But would like to get over to BT45's so was gonna mix for a while... you
    thoughts?

And anyone tried going up to a 140/80/17 (looks close to chain gaurd) and
    were there any probs?

    TIA, D

    FFS.

Stick a standard sized BT45 on it, get on and ride the fucker.

If I could get the standard size I might just do that, can only get a 140
locally and I can't ride it far without a new tyre because it has a fucking
    great screw in it.

Hmmm, maybe asked the wrong question, maybe it should have been:

Does anyone know of a "ride in ride out" tyre service near southend.

BT45 Rear but BT 39 FRONT is stickier (BT45 sticky side compound is the all
    round compound on the 39)..

Same profiles (I asked the manufacturer).

Bridgestone don't recommend using differing models of their tyres i.e.
BT45 rear with a BT39 front, as pairs of the same model are matched with
a slightly softer front anyway. I posted something to this effect
    earlier this week.

Funny you actually mention this, yes. I don't recall the exact dimensions
but I had a wider profile on the front as I had the front written off this
particular CB, so customised it to have double discs by using a hornet end
instead. Worked reasonably well especially the brake power. That was only
because it was damage repair job, be a bit daft to do that to a CB just for
the sake of it, with such a range of bikes you could choose otherwise that
    are better as standard.
Dont have a clue about tyres but told demon tweaks what I had, they advised
and sent me what I needed (guy I spoke to made some adjustment for a
slightly larger rear to suit the front) and had it fitted locally. They do
seem to know what they are talking about in the tyres department anyway.

Worked out pretty well but probably best to stick to standard in your case.

These BT39s do they come in the usual suspect 18" sizes?

Bit of a trek, but Universal Tyres in Billericay should be able to
sort you out (and are among the cheapest in the area).

    I shoed my CB500 in standard-size BT45s, and they've been great. Never
had any problems with grip. Balance, maybe, but never grip.

    sweller says...
Only in 130/70 and 140/70 18 inch rears. They are all 16 and 17 inch
    fronts.

    Sorry

That may be so in this particular case, but not always. For the Z1000
they suggest several combinations with different fronts and rears.

The tone of the letter suggested that Bridgestone don't recommend
fitting differing compounds as a pair.

You are partially correct about the Z1000. Bridgestone list 4
combinations, only one of which puts differing models of tyres together.
    The rest are matched pairs.

Yeah? I thought I recalled two un-matched recommendations. Still: one
    exception's enough.
