CB250 dies on throttle

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Neil T. Dantam, Sep 29, 2006.

  1. Have a 95 Honda CB250 Nighthawk. The bikes starts and idles fine.
However, when I roll on the throttle, the engine sputters and almost
dies. The problem seems worst when I'm in second gear. After the
bike's warmed up, though, the problem goes away.

The tank is full of gas. I've tried draining the float bowls. I
cleaned the fuel screen a few weeks ago.

Any ideas what the problem may be? Thinking I might buy a couple of
    plugs from the dealer tomorrow.

Maybe the problem is you're not letting the bike warm up before riding?

Anyway, run a bottle of Techron through the thing. (Yes, the whole bottle
    in one tank of gas.)

  3. I do let it idle for a couple of minutes. Seems a little more severe
than that, though. I'll rev the engine will it's sitting in neutral and
    it'll cut out.
I've got a bottle of B-12. I can try running that through.

    Thanks for the advice!

The problem is dirty idle jets. For a quick cleaning, drain the float
bowls. Mix B-12 and gasoline 50/50 and squirt it down the fuel hose.
Let it soak the carburetor parts from inside for half an hour. Start
the engine and burn the B-12/gasoline mix out and add 4 to 5 ounces of
B-12 to the tank and ride the carburetors clean.

    Waste of money.

Techron's real function is cleaning the intake valves and preventing
buildup of carbonized oil deposits. It has some sort of copper solution
    in it.

It's too thick to do the carburetor cleaning job needed by owners of
    Japanese motorcycles.
