CB125 RS/D engine noise

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by richard.ingall, Aug 20, 2005.

  1. hello everyone, here's one for you.....

CB125RS/D just had complete engine rebuild, including (but not limited to)
gearbox bearings, mains, big-end, crank pin, rod, piston and rings, cam, cam
bush, all new valve gear, atu, etc, etc.

Trouble is, I'm still getting a noise that I can only describe as sounding
like a big-end gone coming from the motor. Thought I had it sussed, as the
rev-counter drive gear seemed to be rattling in the clutch case, removed it,
    but alas, no different.

No difference whether clutch is in or out, and if I had to put money on it
(rather than into it), I'd say it's bottom end, almost gearbox.

Any thoughts on something obvious I've overlooked??

    Ta muchly,

    Rick.

  2. Camchain? Makes a helluva din on these engines. Could be a naffed
    tensioner.....

  3. thanks for reply, but definately not camchain related - just had motor
running again, and would swear blind it sounds like a gone big-end. Time to
call in reinforcements I think, can't be doing with ANOTHER engine strip
    down a blind alley....

  4. Well, a shot big end is easy to tell - just take down the top end and
feel for vertical play in the conrod.

If it's a re-con crank, get in touch with whoever did the work. Unless
you've done something silly like block a vital oilway with gasket goo or
    summat.....

Are you anywhere near SW London? I've got a CB125S (same engine) and I
    know the bikes quite well.
