Well at super cheep auto they have these digitalk 40ch UHF cb radios for
    $19.99 they once were $80.

They have a 3km range, and for 5 bucks extra you get a VOX headset, which is
an ear bud and a microphone similar to a cars hands free kit.

vox works pretty well although you have to say somethign to turn it on then
speak as theirs a delay with cb's as most will know, never say DONT SHOOT as
soona as you push the button as a NY SWAT team member found out when all his
snipers heard was shoot when the crookw alked out of the bank

But anyway im gona put some velcro in the helmet and on the back of the
microphone so it sits inside the helmet and test out how good it works.

so 50 bucks for a bike to bike, or rider to pillion cb intercomm

Look around a little more. There are some that come with VOX headsets
where the mic is held against your throat via elastic, military style
(Navy Seals?). In my experience, these are much better than the regular
floating/boom mic onces, as they don't suffer from wind noise.

They had those for the $60 5km ranged ones that superceeded the one i
brought, only 10 bucks too for the throat mike..

no wind noise from them, that be cool.

do you speak normally with them?

Hurry up then & give us a report.
    Have you done it yet?

The cheapo VOX setup might be their downfall but no doubt you could pick
up a better quality VOX mike like an "Audiocom" one, if the CB unit
    seems ok.

    Yeah yeah yeah...

you can get a throat mic for this one it tells me on the box, i think i saw
some at super cheep with it..

also gota find some foam padding to put over the microphone to dampen wind
noise, but in my experience with my intercom its all were you put the mic
that matters for the wind noise..

  8. Hey MB!

Thanks for the tip-off - that sounds very cool indeed! I might pop down
today and see if I can pick up a couple meself! Certainly cheaper than
    the dedicated intercom/phone/music/everything-that-you-don't-need
systems. No doubt you get what you pay for, but I don't really need all
    that fancy.

Keep us up to date with how you get on with the mike placement / wind
    noise issues too please!!!

    Thanks!
    Matto :)

I have an Anti wind noise idea for the Mic.
Put it down your jacket against your throat, near your adams apple.

    May work.

Did you ever try those CBs from Supercheap?

I sussed them out the other day - a pair of DIGITALK 3380Ds for $69 -
that's a model that this guy in NZud has a headset for (which look
    good!) http://www.amalgamate2000.com/sales/motorcycle__communications.htm

Has anyone had experience with the PHS Ltd Bike Comms' K series headsets?

It looks like PHS Ltd Bike Comms' K series headsets can be wired with a
Press-To-Talk switch with the Digitalker SP3380D & avoid using the VOX

There's a lot of usful info at:
    http://www.amalgamate2000.com/sales/motorcycle__communications.htm

Has anyone had experience with those headsets?
