    Hog in agreement shocker.

Most of us make the occasional 'handed call or answer a txt while
    driving without risk.

I don't honestly believe that sending a text message is any worse than
fucking about changing a cd, setting the sat-nav system for a route
change, drinking tea, eating a sandwich, reading a map, opening a new
packet of smokes or rolling a cigarette. I do all of these things on a
regular basis and I accept that if I get caught then plod isn't going
    to be happy.

This probably puts me on a similar level to Michael Ryan and I should
be terminated immediately for the sake of all the children playing on
busy roads but the fuckers have got to catch me first.

Having seen a frog on the periphique reading a newspaper whilst in
motion, eating/drinking/shaving/smoking etc is positively safe.
Surely crucified at the roadside as a lesson to others

Ah yes, my satnav is probably the most dangerous thing in the car.

I don't see why it's patronising that I want to ride my bike without the
risk of someone crashing into me because they were preoccupied with a
anything but looking outside the car. The "sorry, didn't see ya mate" shit
is too common even without the mobiles. I'm no holier-thant-thou, I've
answered calls and read messages while driving and I know what sort of
effect it has on my driving. I know even better because I face a couple of
twats having a 10+ minute phone conversation while driving in tricky traffic
every day and it's bloody obvious by the way they drive even if you don't
see the handset glued to their ear.

I don't mind people risking their lives, provided the conditions allow
it[1], but whoever thinks they can risk *my* life can **** right off.

    Geo

[1] Risking your life in a place where I might be involved is also not a
very nice thing to do. For some reason half the scooter-riding prats around
here (Crete) think it's very uncool to have functioning lights, particularly
the rear. Now, when I'm driving my Defender there's little risk to me, but
if I end up killing one of these SOBs at night because they're less visible
than a fucking ninja, his mother will call me a killer, not her son a thick
****. I shouldn't have to deal with that either.

<snip argument regarding texting when driving, including admission of own
    guilt>
I'm not *that* hypocritic. I read a text message once and haven't tried it
again, as focusing in and out all the time is more problematic than talking
on the phone . If I were caught I wouldn't have an excuse so I'd deserve any
penalty. I do answer calls, telling the other party I'll call them later,
bar a couple of exceptions when I had a proper conversation. I think a quick
answering is not reason enough for a fine, but a conversation is. I finally
got a hands-free kit so I don't have to worry about it anyhow.
I think that they're probably not wearing gloves when they ride.

Being careless on a bike is a bit different to being careless in a thing
that weighs almost 2 tonnes but it's still dangerous to others. Either way,
I think that when riding/driving unnecessary distractions should be avoided.
And that includes those damn wonderbra posters.
