Cat Down

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Krusty, Aug 11, 2008.

  1. The point, oh illiterate fucktard, is that one day its a cat, the next
it's possibly a small child or even worse, more cats.

The fact the dogs were on their home turf means **** all. The fact
they've ripped something relatively defenceless apart (1) for no good
reason other than because they've had the urge to do so, I.E: they
almost certainly weren't acting in self defence, is very relevant to
the dogs in questions character and if they were mine I'd have had
them put down after the first cat came to an unfortunate end.

    (1) ...and not for the first time either given they've already ripped
one cat to bits in the past, hence why the fence was erected.

In what way? Obviously you're not a small animal, so wouldn't be seen
as prey. In fact you'd more than likely immediately be seen as a
dominant animal due to your size.

Or is this more a general not trusting dogs thing. Would you display
the same distrust of other breeds, say for example a newfoundland,
    bred for water rescue?
I think you're wrong, the domestic cat was bred for exactly that
reason, look back at ancient egypt and the middle ages where they were
bred specifically to kill and conrol vermin.

  9. Never said krusty has done anything to encourage the neighbours to get
rid of the dogs , from his comments they seem like reasonable people

I understand his grief for his cat but you cant blame the dogs for
doing whats natural just like you cant blame the cat when it hunts down
rats , mice , voles etc getting rid of them no matter what the method
or the final outcome is wrong.

Just rather tragic for all concerned.

  10. Its a dogs natural instinct as well , breeding is more to do with
honing that skill to suit our needs whilst still keeping them
domesticated , something cats seem to do naturally.

I wasn't necessarily thinking about them attacking me.
I'm not much of a fan of pets generally, with the single exception of
cats, for which I can offer no excuse. But, as Porl pointed out some
time ago, keeping pets really is quite an odd thing.
No, I don't think any systematic breeding of cats has ever taken
place. Cats moved in to human habitation cos that's where the rats
and mice were, and humans generally welcomed them. But they were never
selectively bred - find me a reference that says they were.

  15. No... he's really *is* an illiterate fucktard.

Oh, you mean the bit about small children?

Well maybe it doesn't... but then I suspect some of the dogs involved
in the mauling of small children in the past probably had form for
having a go at something else before they hit the jackpot.

In this particular case it would appear the dogs owners had acted in a
reasonably responsible manner by erecting fencing after the last cat
got mauled... but it would appear they've not had much luck on the
    training front.
And so either train the dogs not to maul a cat (or anything else for
that matter), that happens to be in the garden (or anywhere else for
that matter), or get rid of the bloody things.

The owners don't appear to have much success with the former, so I'd
suggest the latter would now be the right thing to do, be that by
having them put down or somehow find somewhere that can take them in
where they're less likely to kill more domestic pets.

Des hasn't been away that long, has he?
I know plenty about cats - overall they're immeasurably more
independent than your average dog, but as a result they're not as easy
    to train.

They will sleep when and where they please, they will shit where they
please and they will go where they please.

A dog tends to be more territorial, but they're also easier to train.
I once made the mistake of asking someone we'd given a couple of
kittens to, how said kittens were doing.

'Next doors dog got hold of them and mauled them', apparently... hence
why I'm perhaps more vocal on this one than normal.

  18. Tough, but by your description probably the kindest outcome.

It will take a while, you'll get over it, but never forget him.

Cats are special, most non cat people don't understand, but hey ho - it's
    nice to be different.

Condolances mate, it will take time and I never thought I could replace the
moggy I grew up with; I was right - but it feels good to give a home to
another bundle of fur from the Blue Cross when you can.

  19. Krusty never said these dogs were agressive towards people
Would you apply the same distinction to cats when they kill birds.

Cats are not the defenceless creatures many owners seem to believe ,
theres evidence that they are doing more to wipe out protected birds
    than any other cause
