Cat down

  1. And I know there will be the usual "who cares" chorus but I'm posting
this for me so those who don't care can just mark the thread as read
    and move on.

We are now only a 2 cat family - one of our 18-year olds had the final
visit to the vet on Saturday. His kidneys had packed up and he couldn't
eat (tongue, mouth and throat ulcers from the failed kidneys) and was
only sporadically drinking. After a night on a drip he was much better
but would only have ever got worse again. We had a final 15 minutes
with him in the sunshine with him purring at us in his old manner
before he got given the final dose to put him out.

Ho hum. The bed seems strangely empty without him asleep on my feet at
    nights.

    Phil.

Sorry to hear that. Bloody hard losing a cat, IME.

He had a bloody good innings for a moggy, though.

Yes, the buggers keep finding their way home.
Best way is to tie a brick to its collar and drop it in the canal.

  8. **** that. When my last grandparent died and I mentioned it here I got a
"it's only a grandparent". You can probably guess who said that.

The last cat I had died over Christmas from Jaundice symptoms/ turned
out to be liver failure. Even though he was being cared for by South
African lodgers who rushed him to the vet at their own expense, he
died. The Vet said it could have been loneliness from being left with
strangers which didn't help me at all.

So I feel your sorrow at missing a cat, also the way they can purr
even close to death is hard to take.

  14. Oh, yeah. Major cause of liver failure in yer average housecat is that,
    being left with strangers.

  20. Ho Hum. One of our five is on it's last legs. I don't suspect it will
    last the night.
