Went to Cassington last night, was very crowded but luckily it stayed dry
(unlike last year when it pissed it down on me).

Loads of bikes, old and new (as you would expect).
Live band, not bad if you like that kinda thing.

    Highlights (for me anyway):
2 x Laverda Monjuics, bloody loud and a bit crude looking, but nice.
A pristine RGV500 which sounded like a swarm of very pissed off wasps, my
lad and his mates were gobsmacked that they made 2 strokes like that.
*That* V12, 2300cc Kawasaki Z, what a glorious bit of engineering.
A fairly worn, but desireable Kawasaki Zephyr 1100.
A CB1000 "Big One" with a very home made looking turbo set up.

All in all, an enjoyable night out, must do Ludgershall next Monday night.

Went myself, i prefer the newer stuff than the oldies on the grass at the
    front,
had to go and park by a new Triumph Rocket didnt i, caused a bit of a stir
but it did nothing for me.

Burgers were nice, met some mates i have not seen for years and all in all
    was an enjoyablr evening.

    Where's Ludgershall then?

Just off the A303, West of Andover. Some excellent roads further West of
there. The road to Devizes across Salisbury Plain is superb.

Agreed, that's the way I go when seeing my parents in Devizes. The only
thing to keep an eye out for is military vehicles and road damage at the
    tank crossings.

Far, far more entertaining than going via Marlborough on the way to
    Avebury.

  7. Was that a genuine racer-on-the road, or just the RG500 square four?

It was an E Reg RG500 square 4, in blue, bloody immaculate. Unfortunately
the old gimmer riding it could barely get his leg over it, and nearly rode
off with the disk lock on. All the same, a bloody glorious noise from the 4
exhausts. It absolutely captivated my lad and his mates, they couldn't keep
their eyes (or ears) off it. What do you reckon it's worth?

  9. Depends on condition, originality, etc. Immaculate original RGs fetch
3k. I could see someone easily paying more for something really low
    mileage and superb.

However, for classic status, the RD500 is still the one to have, IMHO.

  10. Hmm, there was one of those there too, but I didn't pay it too much
    attention.

AOL on that! I have encountered just this situation late one night. I was
tooling along that same road and saw in the distance what I thought was a
cyclist's back light moving slowy left to right like he was pedalling up a
hill. As it was a good couple of hundred yards away and he could obviously
hear me on the Spada (open pipes of course!), I carried on at the same
speed. Suddenly realised that the light was a squaddie waving a tiny red
torch at me to stop as there were tanks crossing behind him all bleacked out
on excercise. I *shat* myself, and once again the guzzi's linked brakes
saved my bacon. I've been a bit more careful at night on 'the Plains' since.
    No power-rangers or plod either.

TOG, you know I love the whole RD thing and have owned a version of
almost every RD model ever made, but the RD500LC was monumentally shite.
    I'd much rather own an RG500 if I was looking for a 4 cylinder 500cc 2-
stroke race replica. The RD500 was the only RD I ever conciously
    avoided.

  16. It really wasn't as good as hoped for, I know. Not as quick as expected,
    decidedly iffy handling....

*But* it looked ace, and it got there first.

Apart from the front going into a bit of a flap if you nailed in first
out of a corner I never had any problems with mine. As for the power a
Stan Stephens stage 3 sorted that. IIRC Yamaha had plans for a genuine
110BHP version which sadly never saw the light of day.
One of the best looking bikes ever IMHO.
