Carrying anything on a sports bike - how?

    Aha, a Google search has turned that up and the prices aren't too bad
    either. Thanks for the pointer, I'm a little happier about the
    practicality of a sports bike now.

    Yep.
    I used to tow a "Freewheel" trailer with my old 1100 'Wing.
    Never gave my any cause for concern, even at speeds well over the legal
    limit.
    Once again, the main drawback is the inability to filter, but I found the
    plus point outweighed that.
    I still have the same trailer, but the 'Wing has long since gone.

    Hmm - for some reason, that trailer usually seems full of dog food.

    That's what I really wanted, a rack which can have a top box on it if
    necessary, now I have that Renntec pointer I'm happy! :)

    I know my main bike is nothing like the modern sports bikes but it
    doesn't have much in the way of luggage options so it maybe a useful
    comparison from that point of view.

    I find a tank bag interferes with the steering and doesn't sit on the
    tank that well because the filler cap is proud of the tank.

    I simply bungee a holdall to the pillion seat. It works well and allows
    me to be able to take a good weekends worth of camping gear.

    For day to day stuff I have a courier bag.

  7. A trailer made by Freewheel, who made the Sidewinder tilting sidecar.

    Hitched to a CX500 Custom, given to them by Motorcycle City as
    compenation for nicking the Siewinder design, which was patented to the
    hilt. Seriously.

    It was fine. You just didn't notice the trailer was there, most of the
    time.

    I have an R6 with a Renntec sports rack and have found it excellent. With
    that to strap sleeping bag and thermarest to and an Oxford tailpack for my
    other odds and sods, I've toured all over the place, including riding down
    to Munich or a week or so when I was still living in Scotland.

    Hump-back stuff if you can help it because the capacity is drastically
    reduced over the Sports stuff. Forget what anyone says about tail-packs
    being dangerous, those cunts just don't know how to use bungees
    properly. Stick a cargo net over the tailpack if it worries you that
    much.

    XR400R like my old one, same size physically but with a little more
    power, and so much better when fitted with the HRC carb kit and with the
    exhaust derestricted. FWIW, even then I found my XR400R woefully
    underpowered compared to stuff like DRZs and WRs. I also didn't like the
    fact that the XR was kickstart only.

    I swapped out the Oxford bungees on the bottom of my tail-pack for
    some 10mm beauties!

    It didn't budge a inch in France.

    Not with a Sidewinder tilting sidecar, mind. I remember collecting a
    lamp-post and at least one pedestrian leaping for cover.
