Because their infrastructure isn't capable of cross referencing a new
quote and a renewal quote from an existing customer and offering you
the same higher price for both new business and a renewal.

If I worked in their IT department the prices would be the same,
    higher premium.

Bearing in mind they make a similar margin on both policies because
they're not the underwriter, that would be lost business.

    I'd sack you.

Just to make you fire up a browser and waste 5 minutes.

Don't we all do this ?

Untrue. C Nash is owned by Groupama, the underwriter for most of their
    policies.
I think you need to re-read what Nick typed, paying attention to the phrase
"cross referencing a new quote and a renewal quote from an existing
    customer"

My Bennetts policy is up in the next month or so, I never usually bother
but this year Im having a proper hunt around for quotes.

I have just looked at the quote and seen the following errors on it:

The bike is my primary mode of transport - it isnt.
The bike is worth 4500 - it isnt.
I have had a license for 5 years - I havent, its more like 9.

Will correcting this make any odds to to the renewal quote significantly?

    So you get a bargain.
Same happened to me last year, I went with the online.

They are set up as two separate business units and are working to
    different rules.

Stuff it, I get cheap insurance.

The underwriter for my policy is my old Cricket Club captain.

    Which might prove handy.

Ahh, my policy with them isn't, nor was the one before.
Nicks emphasis was that he'd set the system up to always offer the
highest quote to existing customers on a renewal quote. That would
ultimately lose repeat business as soon as people shopped around.
More so as it costs a business more to get a new customer than keep a
    repeat one.

Happens with all insurance, my house insurance with Direct line,
renewal quote in the post, £439, check it online £275, call them up
for an explanation, "Oh, that's a discounted price for new customers
but I can renew your policy at that price"

Exactly the same thing happened last year, problem is that a lot of
companies automatically renew policies with out telling you.

    :

Churchill have just tried that with my house insurance "we'll renew this
for you at a price nearly double what you can get elsewhere unless you
    contact us".

    Churchill - £144
Bradford & Bingley[1] £116 with an extra "home assistance" add on included,
less a potential Quidco cashback of £39

I, on the other hand, had a quote for 600 quid fc from Carole Nash,
and just 200 fc from Bennetts.

Just how old do you need to be before CN will give you a decent price?
