    Ok here we go!

    I have a 1980 Yamaha XS 400 Special.

I am needing some help here. I am trying to synch my carbs, and I am
starting with trying to get the bike to idle at 1200 RPM as
recommended. As I adjust the throttle stop screw, it will sometimes
stay at 1200 for a sec or two then for some reason or another it will
shoot up? (2k-3k, etc.) then I have to really let it back down. It also
variates with giving throttle, I will set it at 1200K and touch the
throttle just a bit, and it wil then level out at 2000k, whats the
deal? I just got some refurbished carbs, no float leeks, good gas. What
can you all recommend? I am also confused as the Yammy manual says the
carbs need to be synch'd before setting final idle speed. But in
another manual it says to make sure you are set at 1200k before
    starting to synch?

Any help is appreciated as I am stumped.

    Thanks
