The SV is fuel injected and therefore has no carbs. Wahey! I say, no carb icing. Is there some parallel complaint which bikes with FI can suffer from instead? After all, cold moist air is still getting in there. -- John SV650 Black it is and naked
Not really - fuel injection doesn't have the whole complex mess of jets, neddles, emulsion tubes etc etc. Just a squirty thing.
Thank you. I thought not, but then hadn't heard either way. As I shall be riding it right through this winter, I thought I'd like to know. -- John SV650 Black it is and naked
Cold, moist air is actually A Good Thing as far as engine performance goes, but those Luddites with carbs just keep complaining about it.
I would guess that as FI doesn't need a venturi then there's less of a pressure drop and hence less of a temperature drop in the throttle body as a result. In addition, I believe that the injector solenoid will warm things up a tiny bit. I think I read somewhere about the solenoids in at least one type of injector being cooled by the fuel flow, but ICBW. Techno-bullshit ends.
True, the best MPG I had from my 1970 SIIa FFR LWB Land Rover was on a cold, damp night. Almost foggy but not quite. It's the only explanation I have for 24 mpg, Westbury - Leicester along the Fosse Way.
Are you sure you didn't get a tow? Or did you coast down hills with the engine switched off? -- John SV650 Black it is and naked
